Dear all parents,

It is very nice to meet you here and may I have your opinions regarding St Pual’s College. My son is a P6 pupil and doing Band 1(I think so) in Sham Shui Po. He has gotten an offer from SPC for F1 coming September. Now, I wonder that what would you SPC with Wah Yan (Kowloon)? If he accepts SPC (deadline 30 March 2012) and would not have chance to take Wah Yan (Kwoloon) because he will be withdrawn from "government central place allocation system". May I have your opinions? Thank you very much.

My concern is that my son's primary school to KWY is 2005(8 boys),06(10), 07(8), 08(9), 09(no data) and 10(4). The trend for KWY is dropping and he ranked 10th in form 3rd term (expect he ranks 10-15th in form graduation).

$38,000 annual school is affordable for me. We live in Kwai Chung and I expect the travelling time from home to SPC and KWY would be 20 minutes more a trip. My wife worries about travelling time but I expect a boy would be trained to be tough in anyway.

What would you advise, please?

All depends on your own priority and your understanding of these schools, which school fit your son?

If prefer SPC, or it fits your son, just give up WY

If prefer WY, then you need to tolerate uncertainties during these few months, and to take risk, you then need to calculate the risk, big risk or small risk....need to understand your son's academic level, if within band 1 top, will have big chance, if not, will be risky

我諗最大考慮係交通時間, 你住葵涌, 去到中西區返學真係幾遠, 又唔近地鐵, 不過比我揀, spc 好d

If both are your good choices, why not taking the kid to the schools again, to feel the school culture ( I believe the interview process will be one of the indicators)..
see how he thinks about his future learning plans? how he feels about the interview process? how he feels about the school teachers he met, the school kids he met, and why he has such feelings.

Just like looking for girl friend, boyfriends and relationship partners, or even an employer, then you need to be matched and to live a full meaningful learning experience.. Sometimes a school is perfect in other people's eyes, may not be the child's or parents' cup of tea.

Near by home is my first consideration! Saved travelling time for doing other things!

Not decided yet, SPC lays on 1C grade and WYK is 1B grade, ranked 67th in 2010. Though some opinions are against WKY, it is hard to make decision yet.

My suggestion: think clearly about what is the best interest of your child, which best fit the child, in terms of long term potential development.

You know the best about your child, not us or teachers or other parents, or the media.

Having read comments, advice, and ask many professional teachers. We do not decide to take SPC or leave it. (Fri) 20 Mar is dealline, we may make decicion in last minute. It is a very exhausted, tired and torture time for us. Hopefully, I do not need to play the GAME in my rest of life. Once is enough.

I believe you have made a best decision at this time/stage for the best interest of your child based on your understanding of your child's strengths and limitations..

Decision making process is stressful, after making decision, you feel released..

My son stuides in SPC and he is now a F.3 student. When we lived in Kwai Chung, my son took a minibus to SSP and then took the bus No. 970 to school. You can check this bus route. Actually the travelling time is not as long as you expect. Hope you find it helpful.

Yes, I just have returned to the game and leave SPC. SPC is an outstanding school. I compare some information among SPC, Wah Yan Kowloon, Ying Wa College and Queen Elizabeth School (QES). The percentage of SPC students admission to big 3 in HK was around 40-50% past ten years (?except 2009?). 80% of graduates went to the 8 universities in HK. In addition, QES had 50% graduates went to local universities with no break down (QES annual report 2010). WYK had no annaul report to show. Ying Wa showed 75% F.7 went to UGC fund degree course, this data (75%) includes associated degree (annual report 2010/11).

SPC is the only one among YWC, QES, WYK to show break down of university admission.
