My kid is in K3 too, and he's doing the same as this is what the school is teaching. When adding two numbers with result bigger than 10, he sometimes need to do it with fingers. We just follow the school's curriculum and didn't go for any extra tuition. I think it is okay as I feel that at this stage counting fingers reinforces the concept of addition and how the answer comes from. Of course in the longer run (e.g. after promoting to P1), when he has more confident and more well versed, he should not count fingers anymore.
By the way, for a kid with normal IQ and at K3, what is your expectation of their math level?
