我不太明白楼主的問題、不過都試試答答。　　’Ａ’　＆　’ＡＮ’同様是ＡＲＴＩＣＬＥ．　例：

(1) I saw a man smoking in the lift.

(2) I saw an old man smoking in the lift.

２条句子都表示到'一個'男人,（１）用’Ａ’因為’Ｍ’是ＣＯＮＳＯＮＡＮＴ、（２）用’ＡＮ’因’Ｏ’是ＶＯＷＥＬ．

千奇不用死記ＳＰＥＬＬＩＮＧ、因為同ＳＰＥＬＬＩＮＧ是無関係的。　　是同発音有関、如下例：

(1) A university

(2) an honest person

自分に負けるな！！

1. For vowel sound ,
樓主所謂嘅a,e,i,o,u字頭，eg: an apple, an egg , an ice-cream ,an orange ,an umbrella
但亦有例外，當個字讀音係"won"或＂you"嘅聲音就唔用an,eg: a university , a one way road
2. 個字嘅發音冇h聲，eg:an honest person
3. 個字發音係＂em",eg: an MTR

Pls do not mix up "vowel" and "vowel sound", because words starting with a vowel do not necessarily take a vowel sound when pronounced.

Yes, there is a "u" in "university" as the beginning letter.  However, it is sounded with the consonant "y" like "you".  Similar words include "uniform" and "European".

Another example is the word "one".  It starts with an "o" but it has the consonant sound "w" and is pronounced like "won".  Therefore, we would say "a one-eyed man" instead of "an one-eyed man".

On the contrary, some words that start with a consonant may go with the article "an" if they have a vowel sound.  For instance, "an hour" or "an heir" where "h" is silent in both cases.

Some more examples are:
an X-ray
an MBA (or an MSc)

Five letters, a,e,i,o and u, are vowels
The letter y can be a vowel when it comes at the beginnng of a word, but sometimes it is a consonant when it comes anywhere else.

Each vowel has several sounds with consonant letters in different positions to make the saying of a word. They are short vowels, diphthong, r after aeiou and long vowels etc...

We pronounce a word according to its spelling.
e.g.  JUG    ~  short U sound ~ 〔Λ〕
      BLUE ~  long  U sound ~  〔u:〕
A long vowel 〔u:〕 to be sounded at the beginning of the words "university" and "U.F.O."  The "U" sound can usually be heard.

Let's remember the 5 ways to spell the Long U sound.  They are u, u_e, eu, ue and ew.

The silent h will be found in different positions of the word.
e.g. honest ~  without h sound
      ghost    ~       "
      rhyme ~       "

We only put an adjective "an" before a countable noun with a short vowel sound at the beginning of a word, and that all.

Use 'a', not 'an', in front of 'U' because the pronunciation of U is /ju:/
the onset sound /j/ is a consonant.
So, it is a UFO, a University, a Unicorn

the pronunciation of M is /em/. The onset is a vowel.
So, it is an M, an MTR, an MBA

You can tell the difference in pronunciation of the first letter's sounds between words like "university", "union" and words like "untidy", "underground". For the former, "a" should be used; for the latter, "an" should be used. As cornelius rightly pointed out, it depends on the vowel sound, not the starting vowel, of the next word.

The long "i" sound at the beginning of the word "island" is a vowel sound, and hence the use of "an" for the choice of the indefinite article. You may think of other similar words such as "ice-cream", "i-Phone" and "I-shaped bar".

Actually, the short "i" sound as in "igloo" and "inn" is also a vowel sound ==> an igloo, an inn
