Hi, my daughter is studying EC class at Essex Campus and want to switch to Putonghua class.  However, I'm a bit worried she will lag behind as she is not really well in Putonghua (that's why I want to switch to EP class for more exposure).
Can any of you share the level of Putonghua for those studying at N1 EP class?  Are they speaking fluent Putonghua already?

Recently kids are required to have story telling in front of the class.  It needs a lot of practice and encouragement even my daughter is using Cantonese (mother tongue) in EC class.  I'm just wondering if a N1 kid whose mother tongue is not Putonghua can do the story telling well in EP class?    Any one can share with me?

Million thanks!

Have you ever apply switching from EC to EP class before?

I have learnt that the waiting list for asking to switch from EC to EP class is quite long. Esp. those who have interviewed for EP class (for K1) and finally received EC offers.

I think you can discuss with your class teacher first, the possibility of switching from EC to EP (if you have not applied before).

Besides, any PTH support at home you can give to your child is another issue.

Build up confident is more important in Lower class. Also both Chinese and Maths will getting difficult in Lower Class onwards. Understanding what teacher said is also important.

Really need more consideration on this.

Just for PTH explosure, you can enroll some PTH courses outside. It helps too.

Thanks bb@wonderland!

The school offered me a place to switch immediately, otherwise, need to be on waiting list for K2 application.  However, I've turned down the offer already as my daughter prefers to have a new start in the next academic year.  I think I need to respect her feeling as well, it may not be good to force her to leave her current teachers & classmates!

If fact, I'd rather to switch now as I also share the same worries as you mentioned.  K2 is important and things are getting more difficult.  If she needs to adapt to a new language environment at the same time, it's a bit harsh.  However, my nephew did change from EC to EP (not at St Cat, but LH) in K2, he can "change channel" in only 1 week!!

I know the waiting list is long for switching in K2, let's see.

ic.
If you want to change to EP class in K2, you can try to equip her now. Put her in the PTH class (outside) if possible, find a PTH teacher for one-to-one teaching.

After a while (may be before SC waiting result), you could judge if your daughter is able to, at least understand PTH and then communicate in PTH.

No, I am a EC parent. The syllabus for EC and EP class is similar, just the medium of teaching is different.
