My kid joined RWI when she was 4 (the most junior level), I just quited after joining for around 4 months. I think the question is back to square one, is it really worth $280 an hour after discount (original price $320).
Each lesson, based on the exercise book my kid brought home, they just teach the sound of one (or two) letters per lesson and then ask the children to do the copy book writing of that letter. That is if they teach the sound of C today, they will also teach you 4-5 words, like CAR, CAT. After that my kid has to write letter C on the copybook (I think around 10 times). The teacher will put a "tick" on those with good handwriting, "x" with bad handwriting. For the writing part, I think I can teach my kid to write at home by buying copybook.
The above is the observation based on the material bought home, Maybe they also have some games session in class.
I don't know if the format of other phonic class is like this or not, but to me, the above is not really worth $280 per hour. I can accept if it only charge me $180 per hour, so, decided to quit.
Maybe more senior class is better in term of the writing part.
Lastly, no big difference between RWI and phonics based on my understanding, so, no problem if changing to/from RWI to phonics.
