Hi,

To apply for the private/DSS P1 school, if the children is good at speaking/listening English but poor at speaking/listening Chinese, will it be advantage or disadvantage.

Also, during interview, is it better to choose english or chinese. If choosing chinese, will the teacher also ask english

Definitely a disadvantage, as most DSS / private schools conduct their interviews in Chinese.

i don't have answer, but considering that DSS want the favour of "global education" and such children are "點綴“, kid must need to know chinese.

ps, I know children whose parents are not good in chinese but kids are in such kind of school, you should plan for the sake of children, not just because of the school. not good in chinese would make the kids life difficult especially in higher classes.

Most of the DSS in HK have Chinese as the medium of instruction. There are others that use English extensively, but they are still not international schools. So you might want to consider if your child is able to catch up with the Chinese classes or the classes taught in Chinese at these schools. I personally have a lot of friends running into this problem when their children, good at English, bad in Chinese, enter into local DSS and government schools.

should i say that if the children is good at english but poor at chinese should better consider international school than DSS/private/subsidy.

And quite lots of kinder have classes of english + pth but no chinese. If so, are all these classes target on International School.
