The notice clearly stated that kids are interviewed for 4 min. without parents' accompany. I think you have misinterpreted the words.
No matter how our kids performed in the interview, we should still believe that they have done their best although we really don't know how the school makes the assessment.
I've also accompanied my daughter for the interview. I think the logistics can be further improved:
1. Registration and Waiting: It's too crowded in the registration areas and the waiting areas. There are many parents (some families have more than 1 accompanying their children) jamming the corridors. Given there are delay in interviews, I can say that the areas are totally jammed. Worse still, those who have finished interviews did not leave and keep playing in the waiting areas. That's why the environment frightened the children. Actually it is too noisy and crowded. I personally think it is not surprising that some were crying!
2. "Golden 4-minute" : I always wonder how deep and how far teachers can assess a child in a 4-min session. Unless they have a pre-scanned list of accepted student, it is difficult to use the short interview time to select for what they want. Use your logic to deduce: 2 teachers to assess 4 children in 4 minutes. Each one can receive at most 2 minutes’ attention, not to mention if there is one crying, then the teacher needs to comfort and use up the attention at the expense of other children!
3. Post-interview administration: some kindergarten will open the school for others to visit (like its classrooms). I would appreciate this can be done. This will also prevent the situation all parents/children are jamming in the waiting areas and corridors. If the kindergarten heads think that they do not have manpower to do this, at least there should be some crowd control to invite those finished interview to leave the areas.
Anyway, that’s my little opinions and I believe every kindergarten has its room for improvements. HY is still one of the most admired kindergartens many parents want their daughters to join (not only for those living in To Kwan Wan). But don’t be too happy even when your daughter is admitted: there is still another round of game to play after 3 years! There is no “through-train” in this school. That’s why GH and PC are sometimes preferred than HY to some parents.
