教育問題，代代都有。持老賣老慨歎「一蟹不如一蟹」，對新一代不公平。唯有總結每代獨有的問題，才有機會找到出路。

教育，是為了讓孩子發揮所長。舊日，在培養人才的過程中，社會變遷尚算按部就班，聰明的孩子有空間去建立自己，遲起步的也可急起直追。

一晃眼，拜全球化和科技發展所賜，社會走得快到連成人都措手不及，孩子就更被迫囫圇吞棗。資訊未消化，便要「硬食」，剛「啃得下」，又已經「out」。

為了令孩子的路更「易走」，咱們不惜傾囊相授畢生武藝，四出搜刮靈丹妙藥。過度操練由此起，小學操中學的東西，幼稚園操小學的，未入學已學完學盡要學的，就叫做有競爭力。孩子在不停滾動的生產線上拚命向前走，被製成千人一面耐看不耐用的社會商品，當中有否成長，不重要了，過關就好。

偏偏，置身變幻才是永恆的年代，凡事講求涉獵創新、融會貫通。自學精神，是基本生活態度；歷煉，乃生存基礎。然而過度操練，令學習興趣殆盡；物質充裕，令努力的動機盡失；溫室溺愛，把挫折中的免疫力連根拔起。

面對變遷，咱們有否反省過，孩子是否已裝備好身心去迎戰？抑或咱們只在乎考評有否標準、教科書是否可靠、有沒有標準答案參考，不用離開心理安全區(comfort zone)，就沒有恐懼？

問題很多，不一定都有解決方法，但至少應該面對。社會洪流，無人能獨力改變，但每人走一小步，就是社會的一大步。這個結論，好老土。但社會往往都是靠著最老土的信念，才有最突破性的進展。

I have hard feeling about such term. Because of my job nature, I meet many edged undergraduate student during the past decade, I am sure that they are excellent in earning marks. But their attitude is terrible. They never respect professors and lesson. Do wrong things at the wrong time, snap shot, music, internet browsing during lesson. They treat themselves as the customer and university as a service-provider. I was an undergraduate before, I understand young people always discontent about everything, but they should behave so “superficial”, it is too impolite.

This is a problem worldwide. Students bring their laptops to universities and they just chat online and not concentrate on listening to the professors. They thought they can get all the info online afterwards anyway. Gone are those good old days that you need to go to libraries to go thru every single reference book to write an essay. It's a good thing that internet makes things more convenient, but it has also created an attitude and social problem. It is a very tough situation - how to teach your kid to be polite and to respect others. How to communicate properly with others. In this society, everyone wants FAST and IMMEDIATE results. Young people just won't spend the time to properly investigate the topic. This is so alarming.

最喜歡這幾句, 真是將來一代的問題. 所以能經得起歷練的, 才能確實生存.

昨天很快地讀過這本書，我認為這不是一本好書，但一睇無妨。起這個書名，主要是搏出位搏銷路.....

It is difficult to walk opposite towards "社會洪流". But I will remind myself when I go too far on "過度操練","物質充裕","溫室溺愛".

今年高考中國語文及文化科考試報告指出，考生勤學有餘但思考欠靈活，口試時內容空洞欠缺邏輯。年前曾有考生表示，發明電燈者為愛因斯坦，今年則有考生表示發明者為安徒生；又有考生論述籃球員姚明是否謙虛時如此表示：「姚明係名人，佢一定有優點，而謙虛係一個優點，所以姚明一定有謙虛特質。」

歸咎閱讀及寫作太少
考生文字題表現同樣欠佳，有題目要求考生舉現今社會改革例子，證明孔子論述的「中庸之道」及「狂者進取」，有考生卻引用了企業裁員以至恐怖分子自殺式襲擊為例論述「狂者」，有考生甚至將「狂者」等同於殺人狂魔，並列舉古今中外殘酷政權為例，結果錯誤連篇。

缺乏常識之餘，考評局於會考中文科考試報告中，也罕有批評考生語文能力倒退，指出大部份中等程度的考生，能力僅勉強達高中水平，用詞不當等毛病俯拾皆是，認為是學生閱讀及寫作量太少之過，「學生語文能力倒退，是由於讀的、寫的都較以往少得多所致，社會日漸繁榮富庶，可供消遣娛樂的東西五花八門，青少年還肯花時間和精力看書及寫文章嗎？」

津中議會主席廖亞全認為，報告反映了本港學生能力差異大這事實，「最叻嗰班冇問題，但係有批真係知識較貧乏，因為少睇課外書同資訊節目，集中睇娛樂新聞，結果學術成績足夠，普通常識就不足。」他相信通識教育有助改善問題。香港大學教務長韋永庚指，不少中學生知識面不夠廣闊，為確保入學者水平，大部份學科均設面試考驗其常識水平。

六四題目多胡亂猜測
另外，考評局今年首次於會考歷史科引入六四相關題目，要求考生回答事件發生時間及當時中共總書記是誰。考試報告指，甚少考生選擇回答相關題目，而不少作答者對 1976年至 2000年的中國史，特別是未有定案的爭議性問題所知甚少，作答時多胡亂猜測。

09考試報告部份評價
會考中文：錯別字多並夾雜口語，如「亦都」、「令到」；作文水準極參差，佔多數的中等者只勉強達到高中應有程度

會考英文：串錯字詞，如 now a day（ nowadays）， fourty（ forty）， ShanHai（ ShangHai）；口試發音出錯， clean， calm錯讀 r音； so字後加 t音、 girl讀成「 girl勞」等

會考中史：首設與六四相關題目但極少考生作答，不少考生對 1976至 2000年的中國史不熟悉，作答胡亂猜測

高考中文：常識不足，如以為發明電燈者為童話作家安徒生（實為愛迪生）；將古文「狂者」等同於現代恐怖分子等

高考英文：有考生將中國人口 13億（ 1.3 billion）寫成 130億（ 13 billion）； principal串作 principle；經常使用補習社例句如 a drop in the ocean及 lets not put the car before the horse等

Just finished reading this book. It stimulates me, as a parent, to think and re-think the education system here in Hong Kong as well as the way most parents teach and guide their kids. Luckily, my son is still small and I still have chance to guide him in the right direction. The book is however not as good as described in most book review because the analysis is not in great depth and the solution suggested is too brief at the end.

if you are looking for a "essence" book to find solution for solve the problems, this book definitely fail to cover them. But if you treat this as an observation from a third party, then it provide a very good summary on the current situation. I would say a 5star book. Recommend to those whose child is still less than 6, coz you still have time to guide and inspire your child.
