My girl studied in 普英班 since PN, now K1. She does not have difficulties in adopting to 普英班 . We do not speak Mandarine at home at all, so, she will not speak at home neither. But I can tell she undetstand simple Mandarine as I will sometimes try to ask her something in Mandarine. And she responses correctly by either body language or simple Mandarine ( 2-3 Chinese words).
Back to the old days, most of our families will not speak English, we only learn or speak in school, but somehow we can master it. So, same theory to Mandarine, so, no worry......have confidence in your child.
Back to the lady who is worrying about her kid may not know Cantonese if going to 普英班. I don't think you need to worry, give my kid's class as an example, the children speak to each other actually in Cantonese though the teachers speak to them in Mandarine. So, your kid still have exposure to Cantonese.
