Everyone goes through this phase, learning piano is a long journey, and like many things in life, you will have ups and downs.
However, starting piano lessons at age 4, (I see it's the trend in HK now..) it really very young. During the last 2 years, what she learned, is probably doable if she started at 6 years old, put in a little effort, she can catch up already.
So, it might be that problem, started early, she is "bored" at the lesson, and practicing takes a lot of focus and concentration. Hence, she will not like practicing piano.
Question to ask is does she LIKE playing piano at all? Or she just doesn't like the practicing part? How apart during her lesson? Does she enjoy it? Is it fun ? She likes the teacher?
One more thing to look into is, "when" do you ask her to practice? I have this parent who came to be with similar problem, and we found out that the child simply hated piano because everyday when she wants to watch her favorite cartoon, her helper or mommy would ask her to turn off the TV, and practice piano. (Cuz that's the only free time she has... so practice piano?)
SO the child naturally thought, if I QUIT piano, then I can watch TV.....
When I asked the mommy to get her to practice at another time, only start 2 times a week at first, slowly, built up a routine.... then the problem resolved, and now she's playing Grade 6 already... in 2.5 years.
So.... look into these questions...
But I agree, don't let children quit when times are tough, or challenging...... |
