I think if apply for a competitive and reputable school, a portfolio and recommendation letter will be needed, in order to increase admission chance, but it is not a must and pre-requisite. If your kid is placed on a waiting list, then portfolio or recommendation letter will be served as priority.
I would like to remind all parents that interview performance is certainly the main concern for admission. Interview performance reflects that parents are willing to spend effort and time to teach their kids in daily life such as be polite.
In our adult world, we always like to think incident so complicated that increases pressure and burdern for both kids and parents. We spend a lot of time on portfolio and recommendation letter/referral, why don't we spend a lot of time to teach our kids on motor skill (eyes and hands coordination) and recognition ability? |
