女女讀緊K1，成日話好想學鋼琴，本來想遲少少先比佢學，不過見近排都幾得閒（我同女女都系），所以想比佢早啲試學，因為我希望女女系認真學，而且佢學野一向都好睇老師（個性，教法等），如果唔系我林佢未必提得起勁學好啲，所以想穩個有經驗，性格幾NICE，教法又合適小朋友嘅鋼琴老師，或者系辦得唔錯嘅琴行、音樂學校都得，但系真系唔知邊到好，如果有BK家長嘅小朋友都系由細學到大，又覺得個MS、琴行、學校都教得好，真系可以讓小朋友由細跟到大都好仲意嘅，方唔方便紹比好似我呢類咁嘅家長認識呀？！唔該晒！

唔該晒各位熱心家長！其實我系希望大家介紹多啲你地小朋友學琴情況，如果邊位家長覺得（或者我自己）適合自己個小朋友，再去聯絡個位會員，收集信息。如果唔系大家淨系PM啲老師資料比我都幫助唔大，呢兩日我收到OVER30個以上嘅PM，有會員介紹PINAO,有PINAO老師自我介紹，ANYWAY，我都好感激你地嘅幫助，BUT，我TARGET系“想穩合適的鋼琴老師”，而唔系要“鋼琴老師的資料”，亦未必每位好嘅老師都FIT我小朋友，其實要穩間琴行或都穩個PINAO TECHET並唔難，我只系唔想大海l撈針，花時間和（小朋友嘅）耐性去穩，所以希望透過BK呢個咁好嘅“途徑”，方便自己也方便各位有需要嘅家長！
再次多放謝各位支持，希望大家明白我的想法，唔好比個TOPS被取消！

您的情況我在一年多前也有經歷，最後也是在bk出post，然後得到熱心媽媽介紹老師，so far ok!

幼兒學琴要留意:
1) 上課地點? (最緊要近，我選擇了老師上來我家。)
2) 一定要讓家長陪同。(for security reason)
3) 老師要有教授幼兒的經驗。
4) 用書情況，傳統 or 活潑? 經驗是先選用適合幼兒的琴書(Alfred's)，慢慢再轉用傳統(eg step by step, THOMPSON) 較易受落。
5) 老師的資歷? (這個應該一開始就問清楚，不要估估下!)
6) 琴老師是會隨年日轉換的，特別是對有心栽培的家長來說，不用一開始就尋找高人教授。(價錢會好嚇人!)
7) 琴行授琴的價錢最相宜，私人的會貴一點，上門授琴不會便宜。
我最後選了一位用英語上門授課的老師，開始時我會陪上課，現在仔仔4歲半，可以自行上課了。

好多謝Radomama, 終於有知音人啦！
嘩！你小朋友一定好SMART，咁細個就可以坐定定學琴，我女唔得架，其實佢下個月底都系4歲啦，不過我都無比佢上過任過音樂課程，只系學校有奧福比佢地學，都學得唔錯，所以我想嘗試比佢一對一學， Radiomama ，你有無比你小朋友先上音樂堂再單對單學架？如果好似我女女咁，系咪真系學得無咁好呀？其實阿女天生高大，手形和力度都唔成問題，不過就系未坐得定（幾活躍個種），我唔知佢OK唔OK?我見你而家個私人老師教學情況我都幾滿意，不過真系唔知阿女適唔適合做佢學生，同埋你方唔方便幫我問下你個老師，再PM佢地資料比我呀？
不過，最後我仲有有問題想請教，好多人都話“有啲叻嘅私人鋼琴老師，佢地系唔會上門教學生”，其實系乜一會事，我真系覺得未必，BUT，點解有啲咁嘅講法？？？
真系萬萬個唔該晒！！！

venuscc, it's not because the 'qualified" and "good" piano teachers NOT WILLING to go to your place to teach, but as a piano teacher myself, I just don't have time to waste to transport from home to home.

Also, personally speaking, it's just MY opinion, I think students are more focused at my studio than if I taught them at their own comfortable home.

I sometimes do home visits because the parent is out of town, but that would be on a Sunday as my usual schedule would be packed. Then I notice what a difference my student is at home, than at my studio.

So I suggest find a good teacher, go to the teacher's place, and see how professional this teacher is. Also, look for a teacher who "clicks" in communicating with your child, not just looking at his/her credentials. Sometimes, a teacher with just Grade 8 certificate can be an excellent teacher for your child, while a teacher with PhD may not be. Learning music is a long journey for your child, your family, and the teacher, it's a harmonious triangle. Without one or the other, the path will not be pleasant, and will not help your child to enjoy and learn in the fullest possibility.

Last but not least, I disagree completely that piano teachers should be changed as time goes by. Only change your piano teacher IF and only IF your child is not progressing. Changing piano teachers or any teachers frequently in learning for young children is NOT only wasting time, but it is detrimental to young learners to have to learn to adjust to the teacher's style, communication style, interpretation, and stability in the learning.

I think piano teacher can be changed at certain milestones. Not changing for no reason.

通常叻的私人老師，好多學生，有自己琴室，唔會有時間上門教琴。學生找佢教就大把。pianokc都講得好岩，係琴室學琴一定專注過係自己屋企，另外專業老師應有很多相關教材，如cd和樂譜，無理由拎住周圍走上門教。

唔，我都好認同兩位嘅講法！尤其系“係琴室學琴一定專注過係自己屋企",我屋企仲有個細妹，仲有兩位老人家（鬼C咁仲個女），系屋企系只會令到佢更加分心，除非等大個啲，細女又大啲時，特登空一間房出呢比佢地學琴，而家我都想佢系老師到學多啲，情願自己走多幾次，不過最怕就系自己無啲音樂知識，到時都唔知點幫到阿女，所以其實我都想同阿女一齊學呀！唔知會唔會太落後呢？！

Never too late to learn music.
That's what I always say to my adult students.

It's good to sit in with your child at the first 6 months of piano lessons if possible. You don't have to learn yourself, but you must sit in the lesson.
(that's my requirement too with any beginning students) If the parent cannot send one adult to sit in the piano lesson, I won't accept that student. ( if the student is under 8 years old).

hmm，大家說的也是，我以前學琴都係上老師屋企，佢d學生係一個接一個，好忙好忙的。

回應venuscc，我個仔的確係比較接受坐定定學琴的，細個亦上了不同的音樂啟蒙班(香兒、kindermusik、tom lee等等。)，而在家上課要有幾個條件:
1) 合適的老師(我仔老師是回流人士，學生暫時不多)
2) 寧靜的環境(我們只有一個小朋友，而琴是放在他的睡房的。)
3) 一定要有mami在旁(每逢學琴我就請半日假，現時好一點，老師會寫筆記和progress讓我知道就可以了。)

Hello Radiomama & Pianokc,

      After seeing your messages, I have the following questions and would like to have your sharings / opinions in this regard:

(a) A piano teacher now comes to our home every week to teach my elder son and he has now just passed the Grade 2 exam.  I would say that the teacher is nice, patient, and responsible.  My son does progress gradually.  However, my son's teacher is not the kind who is very pushing and demanding, and sometimes I worry whether I should change to another teacher who would be more serious to change my son's bad habits (posture, fingers...)  Would his progress be faster if he is changed to a teacher of such kind?

(b) I am a working mother and I have two sons to take care of.  It would be more convenient for the teacher to come to my home instead for me to travel to save time.

(c) Should I let my little son who is nearly 4 to start learning piano?  Would it be a waste of time and money for such young kids to learn?  (Note: My elder son only learns at the end of K2 of about 5 years old)

ononchu, fully understand why you want a teacher to come to your house instead of going out.

1) I recommend that if your son is steadily progressing, and you aren't expecting him to make it into a music school for a career, then for now, hang on, until you do see a need to change teacher. Don't rock the boat if your son is progressing, and your teacher is good.

2) 4 years old - I have SOME students that started that young. However, because I interview my students before acceptance, I would say that ones who I accepted at that young change are very special cases.

Honestly, I think kids who start piano at 5 years old is best, 6 is ok too, because even if your kid started at 3 or 4, unless he is very gifted, and you have lots of time to practice with him, if a 5 year old start (later), the 5 year old can cover and achieve what the 4 year old started in the last year, in less than 3 months.

So, it really doesn't matter 4, or 5, or 6 .... years old, just because HK society has these pressures to all these parents to get their kids into every activity possible even though it's not the right age.

This was crazy: I had a parent calling me up asking that I accept her son, who is 2.5 years old for private piano lesson. I told her it's no use to start at this age, she said, it's ok, she doesn't mind paying, and she says her son is really good boy, can sit still longer than her friends' kids.

Funny parent eh?

I told her to call me back in 2 years time.

This is just my opinion. I am sure there are parents out there with kids who started piano lesson at 3 years old who think it was the right decision totally.

I have a 3 year old son, I haven't started to teach him, not even attempted. I want him to enjoy his preschool years, and just enjoy all kinds of music, he goes to Musikbox, and tom Lee's Music wonderland and loves it. He likes watching my elder one practice, and we play on the piano for fun when he wants to. I would NEVER try to force him to sit at the piano 30 minutes with me to start formal lesson at this age.

The important thing is to allow your child to expose to all kinds of music, and to enjoy music, not to chain him to the piano for 30 minutes for lesson, AND don't forget, you must practice everyday once you start piano lesson. Otherwise, what's the point?
