I want to know if the so called 'english schools' eg DGJS, Maryknoll, DBS, La Salle ,St Paul convent, st paul co-ed, marymount, st joseph, heepyun, good hope etc etc really promote english speaking environment in class and also outside class. Does anyone know if students really carry out english conversation among themselves. Do classes really conduct teaching in english (and not a chinese word spoken?)

As I know, DGJS, Maryknoll, DBS, La Salle ,St Paul convent, st paul co-ed, marymount, st joseph, , good hope really promote english speaking environment in class. ^^

I attended P.1 Orientation Evening at DPS on this Monday that all of presentation is english, so the present ask the question also by english. And the teacher requested us to train our kids during in this summer holiday.

[管教]必須建立在母子間信任,關懷, 溫柔的基礎上, 至能達到良好的效果. 親情的溫暖比嚴格的管教更為重要.

"在人生道路上面對種種不同的困境時, 最困難不是要面對那個問題, 而是堅持一個信念: 向前看. 就算問題有多複雜都好, 只要你肯正面地面對, 一定可以克服. 當事情過去後, 回望整件事都是不外如是........................"

The teachers teach in English but sometimes will speak in Cantonese to help the P.1 & P.2 children when necessary. This is acceptable as the children cannot fully understand English (not their mother tongue afterall). Of course the children converse in Cantonese between themselves but they do prefer English to Chinese in leisure reading (at least that's ture with my son's school). English standard (read & write) is definitely higiher than Chinese schools but speaking wise, the child need to be trained up at home too.

i also want to know if these schools put in effort to create an english speaking environment for their students, (ie speaking english among themselves) or only during lessons and presentations. what i am saying is, even kids in singapore speak mandarin at home or sometimes in schools, their oral english standard is much much higher than those in HK-- why HK schools cannot create english speaking environment in schools? any comment anyone?

据我所知，本地學校的同學之間是幾乎不用英語傾解的。尤其小學更是不可能出現這種現象，因爲母語教育使然。新加坡第一語言是英語，與香港不同。即使如此，新加坡的英語亦不是盡人意，英語加華語加馬來話再加廣東話或印尼話，除了當地人明白恐怕只有鬼了。當然能地道英語的也大有人在，香港亦如是。環境對學語言固然重要，但非必然。我不覺得英國或美國人的英語就一定比香港學生好；同樣他們當中也有一部分人中文好過一些香港人。語言環境對語感聽力有幫助，但恐怕只有多讀，多看才能從文化層面提高語文能力。
如果執意要小朋友放棄母語而擁有所謂全英語環境，就只能選ESF或國際學校了。不過我還是想說，英國人會說英文和中國人會說中文同樣被視爲理所應當。如果能說好第二種語言甚至第三種就更好。但如果在香港上學的香港人不能很好地應用中文，英語再好卻始終有種遺憾。不知大家怎

聽聞97後,很多國際學校的學生,中國.香港人比例多咗,雖然同是在英語環境學習,由於外籍學生減少,英文的水準比以前下降.

我姪女也在國際學校讀書,但她媽媽親自教她中文,所以沒有問題.

Want to talk about using English in Singapore ... my hubby is a Singaporean ... actually, in the company, they not only speak English but also Chinese Language ... of course, English is still in the first place and their standard is higher than ours ... however, be honest, it is sometimes difficult to understand my hubby's Singlish.
