Hi,
I have a girl who is 6 years old and currently studying in International School.  I wonder if Maryknoll will actually accept my daughter if I am planning to let her switch to Maryknoll.  What grade is she supposed to be?  Grade 1 or 2?  I know that they count "points".  Can anyone tell me what the points are?  We are Christians, but not Catholic, does it increase the chance?
Thanks!

I think the chance for your kid to study in MCS is low, because only Catholic kids got 20 points, or even you are able to get her in, she wouldn't live!
Unless her Chinese is very good both in reading & writing.
I know kids in international school don't do a lot of homeworks, neither in Maths or Chinese, so I don't think your girl will like the busy hard work or life in MCS.
Pls. think again.

Hi,

This is a reply from 'song-ma' when I ask her about the question about international school and MCS:

'Sorry to reply late as I was out of town since late January.  I believe that you've made a choice already but anyway share my experience with you.

Actually your reasons were similar to mine but my kid was studying in an international kindergarten (no Chinese learning) and I was not sure if I would be accepted by any good local schools.  So that's whay I accepted the offer by Phoenix (now RC), and when we're so lucky to have MCS place, what I thought was, if she's not suitable to local school, it's always possible to go back to RC or other international schools.

The teachers in RC were mostly expats and they all spoke English during class ... ... only, my kid told me that during recesses and among the students themselves, they normally spoke Cantonese as most of the RC students were local Chinese!  So I'm not sure if there's a "true" English environment.  But I agree that for social skill development, international schools should be better when compare to locat schools, especially local schools with a lot of traditions.

For adaptation, there would be adaptation to all the kids as they are experiecing a transformation from kinder to proper primary school, I think all of us have to face that and it really depend on how the kids handle it and how the parent will assit.  My kid handled it quite well and she really enjoyed her school life, except she does not like writing at all.'

Hope it will give you some reference.
