請問St. Catherine家長, 英粵班及英普班應該點樣選擇? 因為囡囡不懂普通話的, 是否一定選英粵班呢? thanks.

It's probably better for you to choose Chi/Eng
class for your daughter. If you choose Eng/Pth
class, you & your daughter need to attend an
interview in Putonghua.

但之前有睇到一些討論的小朋友都不懂普通話,為何會選英普班,是否英普班程度高些及多一點英語教學?

I know some of my daughter's classmates know
little about Mandarin but they are still in the Eng/
Pth class.  Not sure why.  The curriculum is the
same in both classes, just the medium is different.
In Eng/Pth class, no Cantonese, only Mandarin
and Eng.  I was just thinking, since your daughter
knows little about Mandarin, why take the risk to
attend an interview in Mandarin and reduce the
chance of getting an offer?  It may affect her
performance while she's not comfortable with the
language.  If you're really interested, I would suggest you try to apply for Chi/Eng class 1st.
After you've got an offer, then send letter to ask
St Cat to put your daughter on the waiting list to the Eng/Pth class.

不要看低小朋友學習語言的天份，在面試前，我的囡囡從未接觸過普通話，當面試時，我也打定輸數，最終老師的要求她出奇地全部都做到，這也是我發夢都估不到的。

我都覺得好難決定, 又想小朋友早d開始學普通話,但又驚小朋友本身唔識普通話,返學唔明老師講咩....

Did you give her any PTH DVD? 'cos no one at my home can speak in PTH... but i played her some DVD, she wld sit still and watch sometimes dance with songs... not sure if she understands....

其實我覺得普通話同英文都係一樣, 開始時, 小朋友可能都係唔識英文(除非屋企本身係用英文溝通), 我哋可以做嘅係俾一個機會, 一個環境佢哋, 況且, 我相信小朋友其實可以好快適應, 我哋唔需要太擔心

我有朋友都報英普班, 入吾到, 之後sc 比佢讀英粵.
呢的情況都見吾少.
如果家長自己講到pth , 其實可以試下報.

我小朋友面試報英普班, 有幾條問題吾答老師(我知佢識既),
我就自己幫佢”補飛”囉, 最後都收啊.

她連DVD都未睇過，我想她只係靠估，因為問題D音只是同廣東話差不多

No problem as long as the same person speaks
the same language to him/her all the time. If
the person sometimes speaks Cantonese,
sometimes speaks Mandarin/ English to the kid,
he/she will be confused. In the class, the NET
teacher only speaks English (of course) and the
Chinese teacher only speaks Mandarin to the
kids, they have no problem learning both
languages at once.

My son is small kid though, probably can't communicate in mandarin at all although he does listen to mandarin songs all the times.

If we can speak pth (but not very good), can we still try to apply or the chance is low?
