Hi all,

I have read this discussion thread for a long time but I write for the first time.  Many thanks for all the parents who've left messages here.  

My daughter has been accepted to K1 (AM) class this September.  She was born in mid December 2002.  So I believe she will be the youngest among her classmates.  She's got admission to Creative Primary School Kindergarten (Oxford Street) as well.  However, my husband and I both feel that HKBUK is a better choice over Creative for the following reasons:

1. Strong support from HKBU
2. Main objective is not profit-making
3. More reasonable tuition fees for primary section
4. Adoption of IB curriculum in secondary section

To respond to fkkfi, your son must join K1 in September 2006 and becomes "big brother" among his classmates.

Hi Boo&Kitty,

You're right.  I should have said "possibility of choosing to follow the IB curriculum".

After attending the 2 July seminar, we have better understanding about the affiliated primary and secondary school and are assured that we have made a right decision.

As for whether my kid will be admitted to primary section, it is far to early to worry about now.

To be honest, the no. 7 bus to school in the morning is really BAD .  I have stopped letting my daughter take the school bus to school starting today.

The root of the problem lies in the design itself.  Route no. 7 has 14 stops.  After passing 9 stops in Tseung Kwan O, it goes to Sai Kung, Shun Lei and then Wong Tai Sin.  My daughter said she was afraid of taking school bus.  I feel so sorry to let her suffer for two days.  On the 1st of September, the bus arrived school at 9:05.  On the second day, it arrived at 8:40.

I traveled with her together on 1 and 2 September.  In my observation, the driver followed the car in front too close.  The driver simply didn't bother to wait until the kids fasten their seat belts!  The route is winding and going up and down hills.  The caretaker seems inexperienced.  There are more than half (10 students) on K1, meaning nothing but chaos.

If my daughter travels on school bus, it takes her an hour to arrive school.  Now I drive her to school which only take 20 mins.

I and some other mammies called Kwoon Chung to express our strong disagreement with the route design and request a split of the bus route (to run an independent route for TKO).  A mammy told me that Winnie Wong of Kwoon Chung was very impolite (and even rude) to her.  Winnie said "it doesn't mean that you have money and that we will take your child."  I don't understand how this kind of attitude can stand today.

Hi Kae,

Yes.  You may observe the operation for another week before making a decision.  I think it means more to the school if more parents raise their concern through school.  I am not saying we as consumers can demand for everything.  But I share with the points of another mammy that the school bus operator should ensure the following three points:

1. Arrive to school on time by planning a reasonable route,
2. Observe good safety in driving,
3. Ensure children's comfort and safety.

I agree leaving notices to class teacher through the "notice bag" really works.  Last Friday I left a note in the bag and the school teacher called back in the same afternoon.  I was very pleased about the responsiveness from the school.

Hi hoho910,

Yes.  I think it is useful to express our concern to Kwoon Chung THROUGH school management.

Fairly speaking, we should not compare the travel time on school bus with private car.  However, the planning of the routes has BIG ROOM FOR FURTHER IMPROVEMENT.

As far as I know, a parent of the child on no. 7 school bus will write to the school and copy the complaint letter to the Parents' Association of HKBUK.

Please allow me to reiterate that we are not over-demanding.  What's the point of studying in HKBUK if our kids have to suffer on school buses every day?  They will lose their interest and concentration in the happy school environment if they have to struggle to and from school for prolonged time.

No.  I started to drive her to school beginning yestereday.  My daugther is very happy.  Me too cos I have more time to talk to her on the road!

Hi Boo&Kitty,

I did ask Kwoon Chung to split the route as soon as I have received the bus route information in late August.  Winnie said it was not possible as she told me there were only 14 students in TKO area and that could not sustain a separate bus.  It sounds untrue to me.  My husband waited for us at school on 1 September.  He observed that quite a no. of school buses only had a few children.

If there is a separate route for TKO, I will consider letting my daughter travel to school by school bus.

My husband and I are also not alumni.  But the most important point is that you agree with the education philosophies of the kindergarten.
