I took my son to dental check yesterday and found out that he doesn't have 7 恆齒!!

That means he has to use his 乳齒 as long as he can. It is really the first time I heard this. He is 12 years old now, is there anything I can do to make those 恆齒 grown later? Chinese doc or eat more vitamins now? Any mom has similar experience? Thanks.

Hello mountianview,

I have no idea of how to handle your case, but I can tell you my brother is never have 恆齒. He didn't know until grow up & the dentist told him. He is still using 乳齒 up till now & his teeth are bad. so you better make sure your boy clean & protect his 乳齒 really well.

Thanks Martina. So, is 乳齒 softer than 恆齒 or they are the same? I am going to take him to a private dentist to double check in case the dentist in govt clinic made a mistake (may be?)

乳齒 has no root, so the foundation is not strong enough. My brother's teeth are yellowish but he never smoke.
Yes you should go to another dentist to double check.

He said he is 天生缺牙, don't know the reason. He sounds like the 恆齒唔會出架啦!

bascily, missing teeth are always seen. most likely we can find in a third molars teeth(wisdom teeth) or lateral incisors. having 7 missing teeth are rare but not a very serious problem. i think that your son had taken a Xray (OPG) in school dental care service right? this film is clearly shown the whole of teeth including priamry and permenant teeth. i dont recomend u to take extra xray in outside dentist. xray is not good for health and i think the result is same as government's. there are some advice for your sharing.
dont eat much more hard food or chewing gum.

I don't plan to have him taking X-ray again though. Instead, I want another dentist to confirm if they are really baby teeth as my son forgot if they have been changed to 恆齒or not. Unfortunatley, I never keep track his teeth neither!

to define a baby teeth or permanent teeth quite easy by simple check up. but i think they( priviate dentist) would recomend u better having a Xray to confirm the missing permanent teeth as well.
Or u can go back to school dental clinic as a urgent case. i think they would give a explanation and advices for u in a friendly way.

Finally, the private doctor also said 7 乳齒 doesn't have 恆齒. She said 乳齒has root. When there is 恆齒 waiting, 乳齒 would gradually lose the root before it comes off. She said it is uncommon to have that many teeth without 恆齒 but no big deal, some people can use the 乳齒 until 40-50 yrs old. So, my son should clean the teeth well. Actually, they should always keep the teeth healthy, even it is 恆齒, there is no backup anyway!
