本人住係沙田區, 想問下如果想比小朋友入讀英基, 係咪最好到青衣英基幼稚園先? 又或者有無第二間幼稚園可以順利入讀英基呢(因為到青衣怕小朋友搭好耐車程)? 同埋想問下Renaissance Colleg又好唔好呢?

Hihi,

我9 月就會幫仔仔 apply 啟新啦, R. College 既 comment 聽過好多, 好多人都話好, 我住東涌我, 仔仔每天都會出灣仔 Starters
School 返學, 除了青衣 ESF KG, starters 係唯一可以順利入英基既幼稚園, 等 r.college 收左我仔仔, 我就會搬去 ma on shan 果頭架啦, 話晒都要讀 6 年, 每日由東涌坐車出 ma on shan 真係幾遠下...

本人仔仔今年9月己入讀RC YEAR1, 佢係由ESF TY直升的, 等我講下這兩年經驗和心得你知啦.
你唔係一定要選ESF的幼稚園, 只要你的小朋友在面試時英語水平要合乎佢地要求, 不過ESF佢地要求都幾高架, 我仔仔就in左兩間, 一間是畢架山ESF小學另一間是RC, (因住的地區關係, 我係一定要選畢架山無任何選擇) 結果畢架山唔收, RC就收左.
如你選擇ESF的幼稚園讀而可以上番ESF的小學機會的確係大好多, 但唔guarantee一定會收番, 我仔仔那年全校就有2個同學仔無ESF的學校收番.
我會提議你讀ESF TY, 對日後會方便一點和這間學校係幾好的.

我是住馬鞍山，希望女兒在08年9月往青衣ESF讀書。
我一直擔心ty kinder 畢業生入不到 ESF 小學會很徬徨，因為他們不懂中文。

以你所知今年有沒有TY Kinder 畢業生入不到ESF 小學或RC。
RC 有沒有優先取錄TY Kinder 畢業生？？

唔駛擔心，今年 RC 同 SJS 收生都順好多。
即使係 YEAR 1 & YEAR 7 都唔係真係咁難。

唔好信 LEE 度有人話收生點嚴，點難，
成日都出口嚇人，扮好心勸人唔好申請，
係有人想嚇你地走。

今年 SJS 同 SC 都收了好多 LOCAL SCHOOL 插班生，
入 RC ，就當然更易，話晒係新校。

我估有人個算盤都算打響了。

其實如果唔係執著，不如選 CAIS 或 ICS 啦，
我覺得 SJS 真係太多人唔講英文喇。

我都幫個女報o左 david exodus, 已經收o左, 08 年 9 月開學. 我都係諗住俾個女讀英基或啟新. 聽講大部份 david exodus o既學生都可以升讀呢兩間小學, 希望我兩個細路都可以 la

I do not know much about RC or SJS. But it is really difficult to get a place in ESF Kennedy.

A new professor at HKU (Chinese, his kids are ABC, US passport holders) applied for his kids to ESF Kennedy for this academic year sometimes ago. They were not offered a place and now need to find another IS. The waiting list for foreigner/expat is already too long. So the chance for local students with HK passport (except P1) for P2 afterwards, is very slim.

In my girl's year, ~ 70% are non-chinese.

'有人話' is not a reliable source of information. Let me share my first hand experience.
What is a good '學習氣氛'? In Kennedy, there is no exam in the first 2 years of study (P1, P2). So if your definition of '學習氣氛' = study extensively for examination, then there is no '學習氣氛' or 'exam 氣氛' in Kennedy in P1/P2.
But I can assure you that there is a very good 'reading 氣氛' in this school. Everyday the student bring a book from school for home reading. My girl, who will be 7 soon, read a book of 1000~1500 words each day. I do not need to force her. It is her habit now.

我說的 "有人話" ，都係從BK 的 SJS/SC 的家長口中聽來的，
因為 SJS/SC 的華裔學生，在 ESF 眾多學校中，人數比例較多，
亦因此，有些有意比孩子入 ESF 的，都會很自然擔心 SJS/SC 學校的 "國際性" 比其他國際學校，甚至其他 ESF 學校都差。這是很客觀的憂慮，很多人心裡都會這樣想。

有 SJS/SC 家長說，他們學校華裔學生多，反而其實係佢地的優勢；是否真的是優勢，先不討論，但這倒是我第一次聽到的的 "論點"；一直以來，選擇國際學校的家長，都比較喜歡選擇學生族裔比較多元化的，因此，單是 ESF，很多人都喜歡選港島區的 ESF，好多更因而搬家為遷就校網和方便孩子上學。這點，在外國亦然，很多新一代華人都不再選擇把孩子放在華人聚居/聚集的學校網/學校上學。

以香港眾多國際學校而言，以華裔學生多，當成是優勢的，就只 SJS/SC；我自己只是覺得，這好像與大部份人對國際學校的看法很不同，因此想問問，華裔孩子相對較少的其他 ESF 學校家長的想法；或者其他國際學校 ( 尤其華裔孩子較少的國際學校 ) 的家長，都可以分享下。

My girl was in JIS and the combination of students may be better since there were only 1/3 chinese (including taiwanese) in her class. Therefore her english is very good due to the practice with the native classmates.

However, she just transferred to SJS this year. I don't know so far how the "majority of students are chinese" would affect her study. Actually I found her also speak in english (most of the times) with her friends. She said she also notice that there are many chinese students. She will speak chinese with them sometimes if they do not know how to say a word in english. But she could not do that when she was in JIS. She could try to think of a way to explain to her classmates even she did not know how to say a word.

I think no school is perfect. I hope SJS is a good choice.

My friend, a SJS Educational Assistant, told me that no student in SJS has problem in speaking fluent English.

According to SJS's 2005/2006 School Report

Assessment and Reporting Our end of Year 6 QCA standardised test results were once again very impressive.

Level 5 is the highest possible score and 65% of our children achieved this for both English and Maths.

As compared to the UK where schools are set a National target of 80% to achieve level 4 or higher. Sha Tin Junior School students achieve well above with 91% for Maths and 96% for English respectively.

Analysis of this data has reinforced our decision to focus
on writing and applied mathematical problem solving.
