Learning Habitat (AM) VS Yew Chung (PM)?

Hi Moms,

My girl has been accepted by Learning Habitat (Hampton Loft) AM class and also by Yew Chung PM class for Pre-Nursery. The two are both bilingual (Eng/Can).

Which one will you choose if you were me? AM class at a good school VS PM class at a more famous school? Which one is better if I would like my girl to be more competent/prepared for K1 interviews end of this year? My target K1 schools are SC, St. Paul, Victoria.

Pls help. Many thanks!

sorry, no comments about Learning Habitat, since I dind't try before.......

For Yew Chung, My son study there since 23months, and now is 2.5 years old, I feel that he change a lot, become an active and pleasant boy. Before that he is very shy and even cry heavily when see any stranger.

But now he will say hi and wave hands to strangers or even people in the street that he don't know.

Also, I observe that when he want to play some toy that are occupied by other children (in club house), he will say "excuse me, can I play?", he will not 搶走, even that children don't give him, he will not cry, only choose other to play first, then wait until that toy available.

Thanks for your comment. May I know which program is your son in (2 Year am program or Romper pm)? Did your son learn anything academically (e.g. ABC, 123, colours...)?

Do you plan to keep your son in Yew Chung untill K3?

I know a mom who has her girl attending Yew Chung in N1. But she changed to Victoria starting K1 because she found that her girl hates speaking Cantonese and can only speak in English.

其實, 我之前都有同樣的問題. 因爲我仔仔也同時被這兩間學校收了. 其實兩間學校對我來說各有利弊:
1)學之園, 離家很近,不用奔波, 學校設施及環境都好, 老師也NICE. 只不過一個班太多人28個. 我有點擔心是否可以照顧的好. 學校的歷史雖然短, 但好象頗受家長歡迎.
2)耀中, 離家遠, 仔仔要坐校巴. 學校設施有點舊, 但感覺卻很好, 好象一個家一樣. 老師很有經驗, 那裏的小朋友給我的感覺特別有禮貌及純. 師生比例比較低, 相信可以得到很好的照顧. 但學費+校巴費, 每月要比在學之園多出2000元.

經過反復思考我後來還是選擇了耀中因爲1) 我覺得仔仔中意耀中多點, 那天他INTERVIEW的時候很喜歡那裏2)我的朋友勁推薦耀中, 因爲她的仔仔在那裏返學, 很開心而且進步飛速3)耀中歷史悠久, 好似更穩陣點, 更有經驗點. 4)我目前還沒有想好讓仔仔讀INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL還是本地學校, 所以耀中是一個比較合適的開始.

其實學之園也很好, 但比較後覺得耀中比較適合我仔仔. 可能每個人的目標是不一樣的. 我目前覺得在N1有沒有學到ABC或123並不是最重要的, 我希望孩子有快樂的學校生活, 愛上學, 愛老師, 愛看書, 獨立且自信, 這些方面我覺得耀中可以給我信心.

至於入哪間學校能讓孩子更容易考到心水的K1, 就真的很難說. 我有看一些06/07耀中N1的媽咪的討論, 好象他們的孩子很多都拿到了一些名校K1的OFFER, LIKE SC, 根德園, VICTORIA. 但我相信學之園出品的孩子也應該有不少都考到名校K1. 所以真的很難說.

my son study Romper pm.....

my son know a-z and 1-20 (English) before study YC. He learn number (Chinese) at school, YC teach him to count 1-10 in chinese, wash hand before eat, wash fruit before eat, different kinds of transportation, how to express himself, e.g I like to eat, I like to buy.... more and more general social and living skills that we rarely teach him at home.

For academic, don't expect they will teach vocabulary, they have singing, dancing, swimming, drawing, outdoor playing, cooking (the kin responsible to wash and cut the ingredients), make popcorn.............. very rich program that aims to develop their social skills, creativity, eye and hand coordination, physical development.............

My son will study in KV in the coming Sep.....

thank you all mama's for your comments.

I share the same sentiments as junjunbb, my bb also liked YC when she visited, and the teacher:pupil ration was also very good. (2:16). and overall, YC had a very comfortable 'feel'.

In the end I have opted for YC, even though is $2,000 more than LH, i feel that it will provide a better opportunity for my bb to gain entry into a good k1.

Also, I would like to point out that even though I chose YC, but I do like Learning Habitat too, I still think LH is a good school, very new, clean, with their bilingual teaching, I think in the future they will probably turn into another famous school like Victoria.

Everyone has their own needs and expectations in choosing kindergartens, i hope all mummys find a ideal school for their loved ones.

Not long ago, I remember my hubby sent the application form in early March, they've infomed us in April to attend the parents meeting in May, after that arranged an 'interview' (actually is more of a chat) with the principal, then they've advised us to enroll.

They have parents meeting every month but in order to get a chance to see the principal you must go to this meeting (is a brief introduction to the school, not very formal can wear jeans).

My baby is 21 months old attending the PN afternoon class in coming mid August.

thanks for yr reply, my baby is now almost 16 mths old (0601), she can only join PN the year after next!

I really hv no idea what /where PN or K1 for her yet! Besides LH & YC, any recommendation?!

Prior to my decision between YC & Learning Habitat, I've applied:

Cannan (Kln Tong Cumberland Rd) - spacious, big outdoor but in PN kids have no outdoor activities, the teaching method is a bit traditional (mainly Cantonese, w/ 1/2 hr Eng everyday)

Victoria (HMT) - venue not very attractive (with Park n' shop downstairs), no outdoor playground. High competition, bi-lingual (Eng/Cant or Eng/Mand).

Keen Mind (Kln Tong) - never been to the interview, but heard that the curriculum is quite advanced PN learning K1 stuff.

Tks for yr info. I also think of Victoria & Keen Mind before.

I've visited Victoria's campus, no outdoor playground. But they edu theory is based on IB, no homework but only project etc.... Any idea of IB? good?
