Re: 資優兒童
Hello CherylMum,
As far as I have browsed some of the websites about gifted and talented children, 3 things you mentioned about your child do seem to match some of those criteria.... May I ask you some questions? Did your daughter develop early literacy? Say, compared to the children at her age peer. Was that IQ test done recently? Have you ever notify your child's teacher at school?
My daughter is almost 4 and half and I have been considering IQ test for her. Her teacher has given us the remark that she may have high IQ and be regarded as gifted. In her class, just like your daughter's, the children learn to write single letters and numbers, while my child reads short chapter books by herself and write a diary almost every night. She's also a quick learner, as yours. I have tried using flash cards for her to learn vocabularies in Putonghua and she has learned 100 words by heart within 2 weeks. She loved and enjoyed the cards a lot and sometimes asked me to flash a few time a day. Meanwhile, she's simply staring at the cards, no motion. So focused that no one can disturb.
The other day, I happened to ask my child if she was bored at school and she said, "when we work on the writing, yes."
Have you ever asked if your daughter gets bored at school?
Last month I contacted some clinical psychologists about possible assessments, and they said, "the result with the good score often scares parents, but no worry. You can be confident that the way you have guided the child is proven right". That helped me a lot to cool down and "enjoy the time with her and let her enjoy me" (this is also what the clinical psychologist said), as 4.5 is still a little young for the test.
Do you plan to take any further step for your daughter based on the score? Of course, no one can simply judge what should be done by the score but I do believe this is one of the things that we can refer to, and often, shouldn't be overlooked.
As you said, your daughter has never taken any 操練 to boost the IQ score, I am sure that you must have taken good care of her. Could it be your time reading many books with her, the choices of toys, the happy environment, healthy food arrangement? It can be anything! Of course, children often naturally have great talent but the environment is what it really takes, I believe. |
