A call from Good Hope

Got a call from GH for 2nd interview of those on the waiting list. Quite disappointed as they're not helpful at all: (i) just informed the parents for the interview in less than 1 day's notice; (ii) don't change time or swap with others - just take it or leave it; (iii) cannot request the Sister to re-schedule at a mutually convenient time because she is very busy.

Are we not busy as working parents? Can we simply walk away from offices by just saying "hi boss, I have to do something tomorrow morning. See u later then!".

I can't expect how they would care about our kids in school. So I TURNED IT DOWN. This at least keeps my and my kid's dignity!

你要試下其他學校嘮..

其實你返工, 校長同校職員都係快返工,你要自己衡量乜係應放係最前, 請假去SECONDＩＮ大把窩！　我當年都係，　亦唔覺有乜唔ＡＲＭ窩！作為家長連呢Ｄ為小朋友小少羲牲都唔得，咁唔入來讀學校都無乜損失呀！

咁相對來講，　你都未入來讀，　都未係學生就要人地就你亦唔係好ＣＯＮＳＩＤＥＲＡＴＥ喇．

我當年去倪學位大著個肚（仲去好多次窩），係校長見我後開埋門叫Ｄ工友扶我去捷的士窩，你見個有間咁ＣＯＮＳＩＤＥＲＡＴＥ未呢？

你地都未有小朋友入讀，就話how can we expect it to considerate the pupils.? 呢句說話好唔持平窩！

I agree with Msma.
We need to work for life,the staff of the school also work for their life,too!
The school should maintain the schedule because they cannot re-schedule again and again for your convenience. Everytime more than a hundred of applicants to apply the famous school. How can they re-schedule all the time!
Moreover, It is a good chance for your kid to attend the fine institute. How dare you let the chance gone away! Other parents jealous you have the chance.
I know that you are in hurry to arrange with the interview. You should catch the chance up!

一般做法: 打電話只是一名書記, 不能期望她有什麼 senses; otherwise 已她做了高官, boss, etc. 相信如果你打比校長 and teaching staff, 情況又不同 (有朋友試過: potato 書記 vs. 知掟 sister 有關保留學位 question),
但如果對方對你賓至如歸, 又好似太 commerical.
相信好多 institutions 都係咁.

even i can leave my office for just tell this mins and go next mins, but it could not be happen always... in this year, i always say something like interview, second interview, go to the school to see the student's behavior after school.....my boss has no patience in my girl any more....so, i cannot challenge him any more.....

兩日advance notice?　要求唔係唔合理，但要睇時候嘮！

而家呢ｄ緊張時間真系日日都有好多媽咪去叩門求個學位架，大多數學校作風係一有人放棄就即刻去安排見個ｄ排僅ｗａｉｔｌｉｓｔ的小朋友，　再有位就見ｄ好有誠意倪左好耐的．．．

咁當然係好戁人人比兩日時間通知，見完仲比幾日時間去考慮讀唔讀啦．　私官津校ｄｗａｉｔｌｉｓｔ位都一樣會要求好快ｉｎｔｅｒｖｉｅｗ　架．．　ＬＸＳＸＸＸ試過上午通知，下午見添呀！

而家小一乍，你已覺呢ｄ安排唔好，　哎．．　中一，　中六同大學等候補位都會係咁架．．

咁而家係你要人比個位你丫嗎．．　機會當然要掌握啦．．
呢ｄ好戁叫人就你架．　

其實我覺得學校並無意刁戁家長，　希望你地明白！

其實學校並無意去刁戁家長，　但要明白所有私津直官學校，都會係好快安排ＩＮＴＥＲＶＩＥＷ　比ＷＡＩＴＩＳＴ　，　再有放棄就輪到倪左好耐又好有誠意Ｄ家長．雖知呢個時候，　日日好多家長排晒隊去求學位架，　你一放棄大把人補上．．

兩日通知唔係唔合理，　但係呢兩個月內．．好多學校都唔會做得到架！

哎而家小一乍，　已覺呢Ｄ安排唔合你心意，　咁中一，　中六，　大學　Ｄ後補位都係一樣架！

喇Ｘ上午通知，　下午見添呀！．．　呢Ｄ機會係唔會等人架！

其實並非只有Good Hope 如是，其他很多稍有名氣，不愁沒有學生讀的學校都一樣：今天call你要明天甚至即日見，想改日期時間?NO way!來不來悉隨尊便。分別只是對方說話的語氣好與不好。只有那些「至怕你不來讀」的學校才會待客如上賓。這是我所得的經驗。除非不在乎那個學位，否則有時真的要向現實低頭。

唔好勞氣,今次GH放棄你個女,好可能係佢哋一個嘅損失,你橫掂都畀得起學費,那怕無好學校讀呢.

其實個個父母都係將自己嘅兒女放喺第一位的,但份工亦好重要,無左份工,即係無收入,咁點養大個小朋友呢?我都好同情啲唔可以隨時放假嘅家長架,真係有苦自己知.

this school reminds me a case: 個 parent 想改期, 個書記唔制 (red tape and/or 唔敢掛?), 個 parent directly called Principal, 成功改期 interview.

PS: 個書記搵2餐, 唔好難為佢.

You always seems get a lot of troubles with schools. Previously is Kln Tong School and now is Good Hope. I'm not parent from Good Hope but after reading your past and current messages, I do not feel those schools are not considerate on the schedules. Maybe you are quite demanding and want those schools serve you as clients. Just take it easy. Schools got to have their own plan and cannot suit all needs and every request.

其實家長有請假的PROBLEMS,
學校亦有自己的問題(如:人手安排,其它waiting學生安排,負責接見的老師安排,場地安排.......)
現在是緊張關頭,我想亦無可厚非。
If a school considerates "every" parent's situation, then they don't have enough time to considerate their pupils.

宣小都話無得改時間架，當時我都好嬲，最後無去面試。 DGJS interview 封信講明無得改日期，我咪又係要請假去。
我覺得問下自己係咪好想仔女入O個間學校,就算親戚帶去面試，我想學校都體諒。

Thanks so much for responses from all of U.

Yeh, I admitted that I am a demanding guy and do have expectations as I have to pay for. Frankly speaking, it would not be a problem for me to walk away half day in a very short notice as I got over 70 days leave balance in hand and my employment is permanent. So I guess you already know my job. But I have to respect my boss and my work. By the same token, no matter a school's reputation is good or not, at least they should respect the applicants. A less than 1-day notice, to me, is too harsh. If this is a problem of the clerical staff, I would say that the Principal should take note of this.

Needless to say, parents love their own kids. But given the current job market and economic situation, even for myself, I still have to strike a balance until the day I won the Mark 6 or 3T.

I agreed with you. I think we work for the same empolyee. However, I can not leave like that if already full leave quota at that day. It is not easy to arrange the holiday in such a hurry.
I think for the school, they should discuss with those working parent and to arrange a method that are convenience to each other and not just say [size=medium]"NO"
