my boy recognized A-Z (upper and lower case) before year 1.5, maybe you can try to buy the kind of play mat which have A-Z inside or flash cards to attract the kid, kid interested on the colourful stuffs, dont just depend on the teacher.
you should buy some English Materials for your child to learn at home. Actually, providing the English environment at home for your child is important, my son learned English more than at school.
Besides, thinking why the school cannot teach your child for those? is their curriculum very easy?
