My elder daughter has also be allocated to Heep Yunn Primary in the first round this year and will be in P1 in coming Sept. She is now in HY kindergarten for K3. Let me share with you what I know.
There is no linkage between the kindergarten and the primary school section. When the parents took the registration form and registered their girls with the kindergarten thereafter, the school emphasis this point to you a few time. However, as far as I know from the teachers, should there be vacancy in P1 after registration, the primary section will give the seat to the kindergarten school, not consider any outsider. Whilst on how the principal choose the girls, no one ever the teachers can tell.
The level of kindergarten, I would say fair, but not on the English level. The girls are given a warm, happy learning environment in their early learning childhood. When in K2, there will be 1 to 2 homework daily and also there is a project assignment in the second term. Whilst in K3, there will be a bit more homework, but not more than 2-3 daily and might one more in the weekends. My daughter can finish the homework by herself in 1/2 hr after she goes home. I'll only need to ask her to make correction or write better after I check.
English is really not enough, parents should really consider to go for extra English course. On the other hand, the PTA has organize a few extra English phonic and mandrain courses in this school year. The course fee is relatively cheaper than outside but really still not enough and the girls are all happy in the classes. You can see the bonds between the girls, the teachers and the school as a whole. Really warm!
I understand it's not easy to choose a right school to your kids easily but I think I choose a right one for my daugher in HY. Not necessary to be the top, learn how to be independent, built up friendship with others, polite, know what is right and wrong, do the right thing at the right time... She is really happy there.
BTW, we help her to apply Good Hope, KowloonTure Light, Kowloon Rhenish and Alliance (KLN Tong) for her by the time. Good Hope took her in the begining but we didn't register after we knew she was accepted by HY. Kowloon Ture and Kln Rhenish are on the waiting list. We didn't show up to the interview to Alliance for the same reason with GH.
As far as I knew from my daugher and their parents in her class, a girl goes to Maryknoll, one to St Mary, one to 嘉諾撒聖家小學. Not too bad! Also, my daugher told me that the teacher asked the girls who don't have a good P1 school try to write a letter to the principal as a try on the 3rd round.
It really depends on your girls' character, how much time you can give on her during her school life, and many others. Think carefully yourself when you choose.
