Am I right? Can you spare your opinions?

I am a working mami. I have one daughter who is 3 years old. She is quite active as she love singing and dancing very much. She is not shy to talk to foreigners at the public place. However she only can speak a little English and always speak some kind of unknown languages to pretend to speak English by herself.  She learn those English from the CD, such as Mazy, World of English.  She studies at a Chinese nursery. I hope she can be study at International School in Primary. What can I do?
My English is poor and I can’t speak the fluent English. As I think the students of Int’l school will not have much homeworks and pressures. My child will happy and enjoy to study at this kind of school. Am I right?

I think your English is very good! Don't underestimate yourself!
I think in order to master a language, you have to use the language, not just learning it. Watching CDs is "learning", and talking to foreigners is "using". So, you should aim to provide your daughter opportunities to talk in English. How about sending your daughter to a billigual kindergarten. There are plenty of these in the market. And for primary schools, besides International Schools, you can also consider EMI schools.

no harm to let your daughter join those English playgroups, giving her an opportunity to strenghten her English skills

Thank you for your response.

I can’t let her study in a bilingual kindergarten because most of them are is half day school. As I am a working mani and without a maid to assist me to take care my child. Then my child is studying at a whole day nursery.

I have a plan but I don’t think it is work. I try my best to give her a good English environment at home, such as watching the English channel and speak to her in simple English. (I don’t think I can speak the correct English)

She has attended English course on every Saturday since this mouth. Maybe it has a chance to let her speak in English.

You can try those full day bilingual schools like Think International, they have full day N1 to K3 (half day English and half day Chinese) and have 4 branches.  They use native English teachers, which is better for your girl.  They will let the kids sleep for 2 hours after lunch as well for N1 and K1.  You can see a lot of information from the topic of this school.

我覺得你既出發點係愉快學習﹐唔想太多壓力﹐所以你覺得國際學校係一條出路﹐讀國際學校英文根基一定少不了﹐所以你煩惱如何令囡囡英文好d。

但我覺得﹐國際學校只係其中一個選擇﹐依家好多小學都著重活動教學﹐又標榜不同教學模式﹐以迎合現今家長要求﹐少壓力﹐開心﹐學到知識....其實本地學校亦有好多可符合你既要求。

所以如果只為減少壓力而揀國際學校而則重英文﹐我覺得有d本末倒置。當然英文十分重要﹐但中文同樣不容忽視﹐你知道在外國﹐懂中文的人十分吃香嗎﹐大家都一窩蜂進修中文﹐甚至有人指明請懂華語既baby sitter﹐目的係自小訓練。

你找全日雙語幼稚園﹐其實都應該好多選擇﹐WYmom所講朗思係其中一間﹐語文程度真的不錯。

我覺得參加甚麼班都是其次﹐最重要如你所講要提供一個合適環境﹐整個環境係每個人都講英文﹐咁小朋友就會慣聽﹐會有動力想學/想講﹐同其他人一樣。

另外你本身英文程度都不錯﹐比d信心自己。加把勁。

Thank you for your advice.

I agree that Chinese as same important as English.

For my silly pinion, my child can learn and play at school, so that she can train to be an open and creative person. I think the international school may fulfill my expectations.

Let my child studying at a bilingual kindergarten is a better choice. Thanks all mammy’s replies.
