By end of August, there is 1 day of preparation class offered by the school. The class lasts for couple hours teaching kids how to line up and following classroom instructions.

In fact, P1 classrooms setting is like the one in kindergarten, i.e. sitting in group in stead of row by row. Also, tables are colorful. So, it is easier for kids to adapt the new environment.

Don't worry.

如果你指的是學術上的準備﹐那你可以多和孩子看課外書。

可以參考一下是
www.learningpage.com

裡面的故事書﹐TOMMY TALES﹐它是我看過最短﹐而程度上升得最快的一套書。

看書時﹐留意一下EXPRESSIONS﹐ 如﹕
GET RID OF
SO CAN I
CALLED FROM BEHIND
SHAKING WITH FRIGHT。。。
WHATEVER
HOWEVER
WHENEVER
WANDERED OFF

等等﹐ 也要看一看它們生字的豐富性﹐有關動物的﹐有關INSECTS的﹐有其他生字。。。。

陳守仁走國際學校的路線﹐所以﹐除了生字外﹐他們的老師會說比較地道的英語﹐先學好EXPRESSIONS 對孩子讀各科都會有幫助。

又或者﹐給孩子一下生字﹐如
VOTE﹐
ESCAPE﹐
INTERESTING
等等﹐叫他用英文解析你聽是什麼意思﹐也你就大概可以知道孩子能不能用英語的同時吸收到新的知識了。

學術上我就唔太擔心，因為幼稚園同小學教學模式類似。而且學術上，我對仔仔到要求唔高。不過仔仔唔太鐘意中文，所以都覺得有D心煩。

I can say TSL's english standard is not bad.

Yes! Tingmum is right in adding that it's "common" in TSL.. :)

Oh yea! The P1 boy that I met in TSL also knows how to distinguish: say, comment, add, yell, screamed, explain...etc in a story book.

He tries his best to tell me how the weather is form..(the equator, north pole, south pole.. and how it becomes hotter/colder if you go further north/south..)

Isn't that nice?

yeap, it's nice.
Just thinkng that I only knew those words in
late primary / early secondary in my school life.
The society keeps forward.

And I shall send my daugther to take the P.1 admission exam again in June though the previous bad experience.

Yes! I remember the unhappy experience about the TSL interview that many people mentioned....

As much as I'd like to defend it, I'd have to admit that the admin. of this school is not too good.  However, if you think about it, the admin in HKU/the "most famous" schools in HK are equally bad..

That doesn't mean that the teaching of the school is bad though... So, if you're still interested in this school, you have to let go of the past experience so that your child will not be as intimidated in the upcoming admission exam.

Several tips for you if you wish to take the P1 admission exam in June:

1) try to get some exercise books from Page One.  Choose the ones that are published in US/Canada.

2) expand your child's vocab skills.  (The school really wishes that the students would be able to use English as a language for COMMUNICATION, not just a language that you read/write at school.)

3) encourage your child to express herself more fully by urging her to add details

4) get some sequencing exericses for her to do

5) begin a habit of journal writing (just several sentences a day is good enough)

Thanks for your advice.
Though my daughter not studying in English kindergarten, she really doesn't afraid English.

She can now read some story books / short stories, and know many vocabulary throught the training of Kumon English.

But for oral / verbal communication, maybe it's the weakness. I will try to focus on this.
