直屬學額將減少

教統局認為，新機制增加了家長及學生的選擇。不過，直屬學校學生可以升讀所屬中學的機會就會受影響。現時有直屬小學的中學，在扣除兩成學額作自行分配後，在統一派位階段須最多預留餘下八成學額的八成五，予小學的第一及第二組別學生升讀；但新機制下扣除三成自行分配學額，及統一派位時一成不受校網限制派位學額後，每所中學中一學額只餘下六成三，當中八成半給予直屬小學。

It means that the secondary schools only select the top 70%-80% students from primary ~ and cannot collect all students from the ralated/ directed primary schools.
Its aim may be More competitions, more better!!

70-80% is the current situation. Don't think that in future secondary school will take so many from their direct primary, after the change, it may be around 50% of primary students able to go to their directly linked secondary schools.

Even worst for St. Joseph's...I'm sorry to say that.

達標就係囉...而家好似話75%嘛。
不過都唔會係容易既事，實情非常有難度....
一條龍中學收生唔達標要轉番做中中架。

Yes, agree. So those "one-dragon" schools such as Ying Wa will have to work very hard to improve their students' standard if they need to reach 75%. They also need to be more careful in selecting their P.1 students in future if they want to be EMI. Or, just change to be CMI by 2010.

仲有唔同學校都有唔同比例，比如說︰

A小學有4班 = 40學額 x 4 = 160學額
A中學有5班 = 38學額x 5 = 190學額
新直屬學額 = 190 x 0.63 x 0.85 = 102學額

B小學有8班 = 35學額 x 8 = 280學額
B中學有6班 = 38學額x 6 = 228學額
新直屬學額 = 228 x 0.63 x 0.85 = 122學額

咁既情況下，
A小學約有60人不入，約63.75%入到直屬中學。
B小學約有160人不入，約43.5%入到直屬中學，
B小學的競爭大很多。

我個人覺得這個新機制對小朋友不公平，這樣小學的競爭會比前大很多。

It is difficult to say if the chances are lessened. Because the discretionary places by the school are increased. So SJC has more chances to select students that they like.
La Sallean Brother Alphonsus and Brother Patrick, whom I happen to know, are people who like students who are active in sports (not only in studies) and so if kids have good sports background, they have more chances of getting into La Salle/SJC, when we come to talk about discretionary places.

So don't worry about SJC. You could fall back on the disctretionary places, just in case.

I am personally more concerned about the WahYan case after the secondary principal was reported to have said that he will not take in substandard primary boys.

All parties in the news today said "不公平", including the students, parents, EMI schools, CMI schools etc.etc. To everyone, there must be something 不公平 no matter using which system, this has been discussed in great details in the thread regarding the point system of primary schools. Maybe we should recognize that nothing is "fair" and face it.

Don't forget, the discretionary places are increased. So it may not be worse than before.
Schools have more choices, though still much lesser than DSS.

Yes, I agree, but it won't happen (already rejected by EMB) as all the changes is made because they don't want to use 升中試 as people said that it caused too much pressure on the P.6 students.

咁要睇吓人家問咩架？！
人地問讀緊直屬小學嗰D吖嘛，
咁梗係從St. Jo 學生角度睇喇。
以往St. Jo 中學都收得少架喇，
而家咪仲少囉，咁咪比心機考好D囉！
至於在中學角度同埋街外學生一定好既，
對外學額多左，學校收生選擇多左。

Dear Lun Ma Ma,

I am sorry to say that I don't mean to rule out what you said. In fact, the problem with this sort of forum is that we have to be concise and sometimes something may have been shortened and hence create misunderstanding. Sometimes parents with ulterior motive will catch a few words of yours and criticise you. I had used "very very famous schools" as a sarcastic form of description. You should know that in the past I used to describe it as 'so-called famous' schools. But this description is clumsy and therefore I dropped it.

Anyway, verbal conversation will always be clearer and more effective.

I also intend to say that the La Sallean Brothers like to take back their students mostly, so with the discretionary places increased, they are more willing to take back their students, especially some kids who may not do very well in studies but may be good at sports. SJC has a tradition called the Josephian spirit which is very much like a bondage, brothers looking after brothers. So more SJC primary will actually benefit under 30% discretionary places.

I hate to type so long to express just one idea. I will refrain talking on this forum, unless really necessaty. Some parents are becoming non-sensical.

Well, as for Wah Yan, I am quite depressed about the situation. One parent on another thread clearly stated the problem. We need do something, bit I would rather not take the lead.

No, I think most schools would like to use the extra disctrionary places to take back their primary students.

Speak to the school immediately and see their response. No need to guess.

Some Wah Yan parents are planning to confront the Principal directly in writing or in meeting.
