I have asked Tom Lee and other music shop, they all said that 6 year old is the minimum to learn violin. They even said older will be better say 8 or 9 years old. It is because to hold violin during practice will be quite hard for a small kid. Besides, violin is a quite difficult music instrument. You are required to have a better control of both hands to make a note. Piano is much much easier and interesting to the kids. Besides, if a kid with a background of piano he will learn violin easier in future.
That is what most the music shops told me.
