瑪利諾小學chat room

I shall appreciate if any of the current parent of MCS could help to advise the followings:

1. For the new p.1 student could the parent accomdate the girl up to the classroom, or only leave her at the school's gate?

2. For lunch could we deliver the lunch box to the girl during lunch time. or it only allow to order the lunch box from the school? Can we go in to take care of her for lunch?

3. Is there any gathering for the parents before September. If so, will it be organized by the school or by the teacher/parent's club?

4. How is the communication between the teachers and the parents? Will the teacher call the parent to talk about the progress of the girl? Could the parent call the teahers if they have any question? Are the teachers nice?

I also want to know the answers.

On Jun 14, I bought a small bag from PTA and one of the parent from PTA told me that it can be used for the lunch box. So, MCS allows students to bring their own lunch box.

Amy, thank you for coming into this topic. Fully understand that it allows students to bring their own lunch box. My concern is that whether they allow the parent to send the lunch box during the lunch time. When weather turn cold if the student bring the lunch box in the morning it could be very cold up to lunch time.

I am also concerning when and how they will advise which class the girl will be in. Will they notice on 1st August or by letter.

I shall appreciate more parents join us in this topic, especially those who has their daughter in the higher level as they have the experience of this.

Q.1: You could bring your girl right to the classroom and pick her up after school only in the first 3 school days.

Q.2: You could not deliver lunch box to your girl during lunch time, you must have it ready and let her bring it back to school in the morning. For P.1 and P.2 girls, parent helpers would be helped out in the classroom during lunch hour, perhaps you could join as parent helper as well, in such case, you are normally assigned to take care of your girl's class.

Q.3: I supposed you should receive letter from the school informing you the date and venue of parent's meeting. Normally, the parents' meeting held by the last week of August.

Q.4: Communication relies heavily via Student handbook. The school strongly advised you to make appointment in advance if you wants to talk with a teacher. Actually, the school seldom proactively discussed with you about the progress of your daughter except that your girl had serious learning or behavioural problems. However, I don't say that the school is not concerned about students but the school actually placed a strong emphases on parental care to students. If the parents really concerned about her daughter, they should well aware of the progress of their girls from daily homework and assignments.

In fact, the answers for your queries could fully obtained when you attend the parents' meeting. Just a word of warning, you should never miss this meeting if you want to help your girl to adapt to her new school life.

P.S: You will know which class your girl had been assigned when you attend the parents' meeting for such information would be posted up in the entrance of the hall (old wing) where the meeting usually takes place.

Tonks, thank you very much for your detail reply. It makes me feel very well at the moment as it clear all my sister's worries. She is a full time housewife hence she will check her letter mail box everyday

and also will try her best to participate in the parent helpers' program.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish your children and you have a happy summer holidays.

Actually, your sister should receive a letter from school last week regarding booklist and payment of tong fai on 1 Aug. 05. On the other hand, parents will receive information for parents' meeting and school opening on the same day, i.e. 1 Aug 05.

Nice to meet you here. My girl is going to be P1 in MCS and I am really looking forward for the parents' meeting but seems it will be around end of August.

I would like to meet more parents in this chat room. Hope it could be more active that it is right now.

Everyone has the chance - it is just a "lucky draw".

In 1st round, there are many 20 points (even my child).  If the number of applicants over the limit of seats, you still need to "draw" among them.

Are you in Net 41 (same as MCS)?  If yes, many parents will do the same thing - 1st round and 2nd round choose this school.  "Touch Wood".  If still unsuccessful in both rounds, show your sincerity in "knock door".

現行的小一入學機制，分為「自行分配學位」和「統一派位」兩個階段：

自行分配學位

在「自行分配學位」階段，家長可替其子女向一間官立或資助小學遞交小一入學申請表，申請該校的自行分配學位：

(i) 供有兄�姊在該小學就讀或父�母在該小學就職的申請人的學位
所有這類的申請人必獲取錄。此類申請是不受學校網限制的。若這類申請人數目少於學校小一學額的30%，餘下學額可由學校根據(ii) 項方法自行分配。若這類申請人數目多於學校小一學額的30%，不足之數將會以原本預留作「統一派位」的50% 學額填補。

(ii) 根據「計分辦法準則」分配的學位
學校應根據以下的「計分辦法準則」甄選申請人。這類申請也是不受學校網限制的。視乎上述第(i)項的申請人數目，這類學位不少於學校小一學額的20%。

(一) 父�母全職在與該小學同一校址的幼稚園或中學部工作(20分)

(二) 兄�姊在與該小學同一校址的中學部就讀(20分)

(三) 父�母為該小學的註冊校董(20分)

(四) 父�母或兄�姊為該小學的畢業生(10分)

(五) 首名出生子女（即為家庭各子女中最年長者） ( 5分)

(六) 與該校的辦學團體有相同的宗教信仰( 5分)

(七) 父�母為該小學主辦社團的成員( 5分)

(八) 適齡兒童(即在九月開課時年滿五歲八個月至七歲) (10分)

註：申請人只能在第(一)至第(五)項中選一項填報；而在第(六)至第(七)項中，亦只能申報其中一項。所有申報的關係必須證明屬實，才可以獲得有關分數。

學校在甄選自行分配學位的申請人時，不可進行任何形式的面試或筆試。在經修訂的「計分辦法準則」下，原則上，學校沒有需要約見申請人。但若學校認為有需要在公布「自行分配學位」結果前約見申請人，則會通知家長有關約見詳情。然而，申請人是否獲學校取錄，應取決於「計分辦法準則」的得分而絕非面見的結果。

若有申請人在「計分辦法準則」下得分相同，而申請人數目亦超過學校剩餘的自行分配學位的學額，學校應以隨機方式甄選同分的申請人。學校可自行抽籤，但須秉承公平、公正的原則，或交由教育統籌局中央處理。學校應預先通知申請人校方將採用的方法及有關細節。

統一派位

學校須預留小一學額的大約50%，由教育統籌局按學校網和家長選擇進行「統一派位」。「統一派位」的學額中有10%是不受學校網限制的，家長可選擇最多三所位於任何學校網（包括住址所屬學校網）的小學。

「選擇學校表格」分為甲部（不受校網限制的學校選擇）及乙部（住址所屬學校網的學校選擇）兩部份。家長可在甲部填入最多三所任何學校網的選校編號。此外，家長在填寫乙部時，應盡量將其居住地址所屬學校網的小學，按照意願排列先後次序填入表內。

電腦進行統一派位時，首先會處理「不受學校網限制」的選擇，然後處理「住址所屬學校網」的選擇。統一派位是根據家長的選擇分派學位，若某些學校的小一學位求過於供時，電腦將會按「隨機編號」分配，務求公允。電腦首先會依據「隨機編號」次序審閱所有申請人在甲部填寫的第一選擇。當所有申請人的第一選擇審閱完畢後，再依次序審閱未獲派位申請人的第二選擇，然後第三選擇。未能在「不受學校網限制」的選校中獲派學位的申請人，電腦會依上述程序處理他們在「住址所屬學校網」的選校，直至每名申請人皆獲得分配一個小一學位為止。

I think I will be there around 11:00 am. This leave me only one hour for the book shopping. We may be very busy in the school on 8/1, so if we meet, we can only say hi. It may be better to meet on the parents' meeting. Please let me know your preference.

Does your girl has any schoolmates from KG to MCS? My girl has 11, so she is very happy to meet her friends there. Right now, I know 3 mums and you are the 4th. I hope the number can jump to a double or more very soon.

I will be there at around 10:30 am. Yes we will very busy to collect school bag, school uniform and book. Will u buy the book before 1/8 at Ling Kee? I don't have any preference on which day we meet, it's just up to you. Maybe we fix the date later. Anyway, keep in touch here..

My daughter has 3 schoolmates from KG to MCS. Does your kid study in St. Cat???? The 3 mums you know are all in BK???? Sorry to have so many questions.

May I have a corner here. Luckily, my daughter will go to P. 1 of MCS in September. I concern the MCS's English standard is very demanding that will be a pressure in higher level. So, I give my daugther to have a English course in this summer which is 2 lessons weekly. But the September will be coming sooner, I want to invite if any MaMi intending to have the Eng. course to your girl who can join in grouping. That might be a good joining for same school, same at P.1 and can take care together. Details - the Centre is at Austin Road, TST. An Eng. native english speaker (female) with well teaching experience, Max. 3 or 4 children in group $200 for one hour lesson. She will teach Phonics, conversation, comprehension on story book and writing as I requested. And I want to have 2 lessons in one week except weekend and Sunday(not open). The date will be set in the mid or end of August and will be discussed each other that should be convenient to everybody. My daughter study here already half year, initially she is a shame girl and not willing to speak eng. to me. Now, she very like to go the Centre and being to speak English to me initiative because the teacher make her more confidence and always to give much encouragement to the student. Will you join me?

I called Ling Kee and they said that if I purchased from them directly instead of in MCS's campus, they will not treat me as purchase thru the school.  So, if there is any book not available during the purchase, I must buy it later by myself.  While, if I purchase on 8/1, I only need to pay the whole sum and if any not available will be sent to my girl thru the school.  So, it will be better to purchase on 8/1 instead.  (I checked with them the day I received the booklist and they told me some of the books are not available yet.)

I lived in Lam Tin, which area do you live in?  May be we can meet on 8/1 after all the purchase.  I already picked the summer uniforms from tailors last week as suggested by the other mums.  They told me that doing so will leave me only need to purchase the books on 8/1 and don't need to carry so many bags.  Have you collect yours?

My girl is not from St. Cat.  (I heard from BK that a lot kids from St. Cat will go to MCS.  I did saw quite a lot of St. Cat's girl on 6/14.)  She is from St. Rose.  2 mums I know are St. Rose's parents and 1 mum is a St. Cat's parent (she is my ex-colleague).  All of them are not from BK (may be they are but I don't know their login names.)
