They divided into native/nearly native class or mainstream class.
From yr 1-2, there are 3 Chinese lessons per week. From yr 3-6, there are Chinese lessons everyday.
For nearly native class, they have dictation once two weeks in term one of year 1. They give the student a story book with repeated characters, and then we prepare for him at home. The teacher said Pinyin is the main focus in Year 1. Not sure about other terms yet. The teacher told us there will be examination but don’t know the details yet.
