But for "Lucky Draw", you better choose LS.

Because DPS admits 32 boys while LS admits over 200 boys for P.1 ...

Yes, DPS is an English school and the school is going to use a totally different set of English text book next year.

What do you mean that the school is going to use different English text books next year? Is it better? Why?

ChunMaMa,

Yes, the school is going to use different English text book starting this September.

It is a set of Collins text book, which is popular in UK.

I haven't look at the books yet, so don't want to comment on them. But it sounds like more systematic than before.

Hi katiema,

Yes.  It is a government subsidized school.  In 2005 (this year), they accept both boys and girls.

ICHUN,

Hi katiema,

DPS is one of the "chosen" school in Net 41.

To my best understanding, except Chinese, Putonghua and Chinese Social Studies, all subjects are taught in English.

The curriculum includes Chinese, English, Mathematics, Putonghua, History & Geography, Science, Social Studies, Music, Computer and Information Technology, Art and Craft, Physical Education and Scripture.

The headmistress of DBSPD (the new school) is from PLKTSL, not from DPS.  Others - no comments.  I believe it is a good school in Kowloon Tong or you may visit their website: www.dps.edu.hk to see whether you can find your answer there.

I do not mean to be snobbish but it seems that no one here has talked about the style of the two schools or are aware of the traditional rivalry between DBS and La Salle.  For my part I think it is quite sad that when parents choose a school for their kids, they only concentrate on whether they could guarantee a place in secondary and place little weight on other aspects of the school, such as what sort of person that school is likely to produce.  La Salle is a Catholic school run by the de La Salle Brothers and DBS is run by the Anglican Church.  The educational outlook is very different.

Though the quality of schools in HK have generally "diluted"
in recent years due to the "big wok rice" policy of the Government, traditional "elite" schools such as DBS, La Salle, St. Joseph's, Wah Yan, MCS, etc still had their individual "flair" and those who are "in the know" will be able to spot a student from one school from one from the other just by looking at the way they talk.  As far as academic performance is concerned I do not believe that it actually matters THAT much.  It is what a school does to you AS A PERSON that affects you for life.

My advice to parents: try to ask and learn more about "intangible" things about a school.  They affect your kids more than anything else.
