Re: Kumon Maths and English
Kumon is an international program, even students in Canada and US take it. However, it does not mean that it's good for all....
I think the program targets those who DO NOT want to work on their own. Since students are given many many easy questions, they tend to like it and think this way--it's easy, and I feel like I am doing a lot of work.....
However, this program is VERY REPULSIVE to students who are talented in math and want IQ questions to inspire their thinking. From my friends' experiences, Kumon is only good for elementary math. When it comes to problem solving and logical reasoning, those who take kuman would not do well.
I have friends who enroll in elite Math programs at foreign universities, and not ONE of their friends had taken Kumon before.
Instead, they do Math contest questions. There are many contest-type problems offered by US publishers. The hardest and most intuitive questions should be found in math olympiad. Othe good ones are the one offered by the University of Waterloo in Canada. UC Berkeley also publishes many interesting math books.
As a normal math student, I also don't find Kumon useful because it doesn't teach me the problem solving skills required for math exams. |
