My son is studying in K2 now in this school. I try to list out the things about the school as objectively as I can because I love it personally.
1. There are two class teachers, one English (usually Indian) and one Chinese, for each class. Besides Chinese and Putonghua, other lessons are taught in English.
2. In my son’s class, there are 4 non-Chinese students (all Indian). Around 4-6 non-Chinese students in the morning class but the number will be more in the afternoon class. Thus students have more chances to speak English as some of their classmates cannot speak Cantonese. With (1) and (2), you will know why students in this school generally have higher competence in English.
3. The teachers are nice, caring and experienced. Though they may not give you calls unless your child has some problems (your child in in K1, not PN anymore), you are always welcome to call them to understand how your child is doing. They will return calls after class.
4. There is one native Putonghua teacher and one NET teacher in the school. They will have Putonghua lessons since K1 (I am not sure how many lessons per week) and since K2, they will have phonics lessons by NET (again, not sure how many lessons per week).
5. School fee: http://www.chsc.hk/kindergarten/. As it is just 1162 per month with 10 instalments per year, please do not expect you will have blond hair English teachers with British or American accents. However, it is value for money and you will get more than you paid.
6. Miscellaneous fee is around 400 per term (two terms in a year) which includes the exercise book, the snack, etc. Though it includes snack, children are encouraged to bring their own snack to school.
7. 2016-2017 Primary One Distribution Place result: http://219.76.217.100/edu/taysfmkg/word/1617All.pdf. As a kindergarten joins the Education Voucher Redemption Scheme, the result of admission to DSS school and private school is very good. Of course, the contribution of parents is very vital too.
8. School buses are available so it also attract quite a lot of outsiders to this school.
9. Every two months, you will receive your child’s assessment report (it is called “Development Checklist” so you will have a better picture of how your child is doing at school.
10. There is Parent’s Day two times a year (at the end of the term) to give you the opportunity to talk to the two class teachers.
11. Besides birthday parties, there are Halloween Party, Cultural Day, Christmas Party, Environmental Costume Design Competition, school picnic etc. Children has a lot of fun in participating in these activities. For these parties day, parents are allowed to go to the classroom with their children to take photos, also stay with the child during the assembly time to take part in singing the school song and doing morning exercises.
12. K1 students will be promoted to the same class in K2, thus the bonding between the students and the parents are very strong. From our parents’ group, all of them are very supportive and helpful.
13. The school launches a Parent-Child Reading Scheme so every week, your child will take home either a Chinese or an English story book with a Reading Record Book and return the book on the following Monday.
This is what I can think of now and hope it is useful to those who are interested in this school. |
