Hi! Sorry for my late reply.
Yes, my girl studied at ESF kinder.
5-6 kids and 5-6 ESF primary teachers entered a room. The door was close and parents were offered a guide tour of the school. After an hours, the kids were allowed to leave. So, I m not sure how the interview was carried out.

Thanks for yr reply! I am so worry now because on this sept 05 he will study at Sheung Wan ESF kindy, but at home all the parents will speak cantonese with him is that a problem?
You will speak english or cantonese to your child? Also when I visit the kindy all the day the children are playing so how can they learn ?
I am vvvvvvvvv worry because I also have a chance to go into Scret Heart at Robinson road but I want my son to learn more English so I think I will chose ESF you know International School and Local School is a big big different.
What time I want to fill in the form at ESF Primary or the Kindy will give me later?
So worry........... very lucky to meet you because I write a form at another topic no one reply me.

1. I speak to my girl in English but everyone else in the family speak to her in Chinese.

2. I think if no one speak to your kid in English at home, it will be a problem. He may not understand what teacher says and tend to speak with his classmate in Chinese. One of my girl's classmate whose family only speak Chinese didn't get a first interview place at P1. (But later he was admitted by one of the ESF P1 as additional class was made this year for 2000 kids).

3. The ESF Kinder will give you the application form for P1. Don't worry.

4. Last week I visited the Open day for new P1 students at the Kennedy School. I found that less than 20% students are local Chinese. Most of them are Causasian. I also worry if my girl can adapt to it quickly. I am afraid her English is not as good as the Causasian and whether she will become a minority. As parents, we always worry.

Hi angelakwok,

Don't worry, you still have time.

My Suggestions:
- Employ native English Speaking private tutor
- Join some English medium extra-curricular activities
- Join ESD (http://www.edservices.org.hk) English classes and summer camp, choose the school you want to apply.  Let your son get familiar with the environment.  Some teachers or education assistants from the ESF school may also work for the courses.
- One parent always talk to your son in English
- Ask your home helper to talk to your son in English ONLY. Don't let her speak highly distorted Cantonese to your son.
- Let your son watch more English TV programmes and videos. You don't need to buy any, you can record the children programs of Pearl and World channels.  Most of them are good.  It is better to use a DVD recorder to record because you can cut away the commercial. Make sure the one you buy have the edit function.  Don't need to worry about his English level, just let him watch and try your best to explain to him.  When he find the programs interesting, he will try his best to figure out the meaning.

Don't worry, you can make it.

May I ask a question here?  Does it mean if we are from a local Chinese family, we should put our kids to a ESF kinder, primiary and secondary?  Or, an ordinary IS will also be accepted?  Thanks.
