Can anyone kindly compare AISHK and YCIS (secondary) or just provide information of AISHK?

My daughter is at YCIS (Y8), but increasingly the school gives us the impression that the teachers there are not responsible, after we attended several meetings and knew more. In addition, the IB of YCIS is rather poor (only 14% is above 40, refer to http://www.edu-kingdom.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3081558&extra=page%3D4). We really worry about my daughter's academic performance. At the moment she is roughly at the middle in her class.

From the above link, one may find that AISHK is much better in terms of IB. We then applied for AISHK for her this Feb and got the offer recently. However, we have no any information of this new school. There is limited information online either. My daughter is happy with the YCIS and is not willing to transfer. So we hesitate a little bit. It is not good to force her to transfer at this age.

Any comments are appreciated.

I have always said that parents should never be obsessed with the figures. Even if I tell you there is a school that has 90% of students that get 40+, if your child falls under the other 10%, it is not going to mean anything at all.
Not sure what you are looking for.
I do not fancy the "local culture" of YCIS. I have seen so many YCIS students since I am around in kowloon tong a lot. Not what I would want.
I like international schools not only for the western curriculum but also would want a more western culture at school. YCIS is just not my cup of tea.
I am sure some other parents would give you opposite comments.

No offence...but after reading your thread I wonder...
(1) if you believe in figures, then YC is very good because the Global average score is only 29.9 and YC is 35.
(2) QUOTE the IB of YCIS is rather poor (only 14% is above 40 UNQUOTE
40+ is a very good score but you said 'only'.  Dont you think your expectation is extremely high?  You said your child is in the middle then isnt it inappropriate just to pick the highest score to compare?
(3) Again if you want to compare, you must also take note of the no. of students.  The top one on the list was SPCC but it only had 32 students taken the exam.  It is very selective.  I dont know how selective YC is but according to the figures in the link you provided, it isnt not bad at all.
(4) The only similarities in these schools is they are both in Kowloon Tong.  Otherwise i really dont know how you can compare them!

回覆:AISHK and YCIS (Secondary)

2012 annual review 共27 IB students, 48% 有40+ , average score 36.  耀中 2013 至 2015 average score 同是 35, 考生人數分別有 94, 68, 87, 2014 年有差不多 兩成有 40+. 若只看這些數字好難話AISHK is much better.  考獲40+ 比例高但平均分只高耀中小小, 是否成績比較兩極化?

Don't forget that a significant number of students at AISHK do not take IB (they take the Australian Higher School  Certificate instead). When looking at the figures, don't forget that some schools only let the high achievers take the IB challenge. That's why we need to look at university destinations as well. By the way, I am not a YC parent but think its IB results are more than decent.

Thank your reply very much. You are right that it really depends on which level she is. I am dissapointed at YCIS that some teachers are not responsible. In an extreme case, a supporting staff was appionted as a teacher.

Thank your reply. I used "only" because the YCIS figure is almost at the bottom among all international school, in terms of both proportion of top students (above 40) and the proportion of the mean.

多謝回覆!兩所學校人數是有差別,但可以看出AISHK這些年IB有improving。AISHK另外一部分人考澳洲HSC.

No school is perfect.  I would say dont change school just because of 'some' teachers' behaviour.  My tenant was an ex-teacher in AIS.  There were politics there too.  She left and is now teaching as a NET in a local school and is much happier there.  Not even a band 1 school so they say.  Just a band 2-3 school in Tsuen Wan.

Any AISHK parents talk about their impression of the school?

I attended several parents meetings of YCIS and many were not happy with the school.
