I was told by a DBS old boy that DBSPD is opearted by the mother school and DPS is a shell operated by those who knows nothing about the tradition of DBS.

DBSPD is a boys school and DPS will be co-ed.

My friend just found out her son is gifted, and the doctor recommended she transfer her son to 拔萃小學. She found out there are two 拔萃小學, DBSPD, and DPS, so she is quite confused and not sure which one to go for.

I trust that the doctor is referring to DBSPD. In which way is the child gifted?? Music, math, ......?

就算係資優，DBSPD都未必收，因為有些可能EQ低，如果唔係就好D，DBSPD收生要求好高，佢收你朋友個仔就好
o羅，如果唔收;可考慮ST FRANCIS，上次BK雜誌訪問應校，佢地話有D班專收IQ130。

Is it possible ? From P1 to P6, still 85% of them will be admitted to DBS ! How can SKH will allow it ?

As far as I understand, the existing P.1 (and P.2 also I think) have only got 10-15% of entering DBS when they finish their P.6 curriculum. Only those P.3 or above are guaranteed with seats (as high as 85%)like before.

Please correct me if I were wrong.

論辦學年資，DBSPD遠比DPS短，DPS應有五十多年歷史。
那old boy竟說DPS只形同一個軀殼？一朝斷纜便落得如此評語….我相信以往幾十年來很多出色的拔萃男生都是由DPS小學一直讀上DBS中學的，有咩理由DPS ”knows nothing about the tradition of DBS”？！真奇怪？

另2010年DPS正式脫鈎，那而家讀緊P.1的應拉車邊上到那80%直屬中學學額啩？今年9月先入DPS的，應該無行了。

You are right. My son is study DPS P.1 and the school noticed that this year P.1 will be a last year to guarantee to DBS, so my son is very lucky. But 2005 will 無行.

BTW, I am not agree the old boy message too.

Dear Moms, do you know how the DBPS select student? Do they like student from CCKG (Christ Chruch)? I heard that they like to accept boys who have achievement on sports, music or a gifted child. Please provide more information on this school. Million thanks.

我有少少唔明，朋友個仔今年入了新小拔，好鬼開心話比我知係新拔，好強調"唔係舊拔"。另外朋友的朋友（唔識）個仔，爸爸媽咪係ABC係屋企講英文，個仔考唔到新小拔，好唔開心，所以先至去抽舊拔，E＋讀緊P1，無左個橙，執番個吉o甘樣。佢仲話其實舊拔的英文都好深＋！如果今年有舊拔P1有80％直上大拔，甘今年新小拔咪得好少位，兩面咪唔夠分羅！o甘WHYD媽咪，舊年點解仲要爭崩頭入新小拔，舊年考唔到新小拔果D，又點解甘唔開心，聽另外D媽咪講今舊拔P3�4已最后一批入大拔，邊個ARM呢？？？

My friend's son has a IQ over 145, and his EQ is okay. if DBSPD is the one, then she could try for the new p4 class that's going to be added this fall; if DPS is the one, she is not sure how she is going to get her son in, because it's students are assigned by the lottery.

I tend to agree with the other old boy and we really mean no offence. The tradition was broken when the school council appointed Mr. Chan (now departed), to become its headmaster years ago. To verify this fact, go ask what the headmistress or any teacher knows about DBS, did she attend any of the DBS functions (even before DBSPD was established)?? You will understand what the old boys were referring to. Many of the old boys also voted with their feet and sent their kids to international schools.

I will not call DPS a shell but I call it a school with just the DBS "label" so that it sounds less controversial.

No offence meant but just want to tell the truth.

DBBoy,

With the new headmistress in DPS, is the quality and standard of DPS maintained after breaking the link with DBS? How is its current culture different from the old DPS?

I only know from a P.1 DPS boy that they have a lot of tests and exams, and the little boy is not happy going to school. :-|

I don't know another student. But my son is very enjoyable the school life even (DPS) many test and dictation a week. I think this is very depend on the child, my son studied Kentville kinder and dictation become habit.

I am very glad that I can finally meet here a Kentville parent whose son is now studying in DBSPD.

Is your son in P1 now? May I know how many Kentville students got admitted in the year of your son? I just want to know the chance of Kentville students as compared to the other kinder's students to get admitted to DBSPD.

BTW, is your husband an old boy? Would you share with me what to prepare for the interview?

James is study in DPS now, but he accepted DBSPD too. We chose DPS, because we don't want to take a risk for the new school. DBSPD is running vey good and many good command come form different channel now. My hubby is old boy both of DPS & DBS. James got the seat at DPS under the points counting and DBSPD was under interview. I know a several classmate of James in Kentville accepted to DBSPD.

I don't make any special preparing for DBSPD interview. But if your son doesn't learn Phonic, may you need sent him to study immediately. Because Kentville is not enough Phonic training.

Hope can help you for my little opinion.

My situation is similar to Jamesmama. My son got accepted by both DPS & DBSPD.

My husband is an old boy and my elder brother works in DBS. I took their advice and chose DPS with similar rationale as Jamesmama.
