How many extracurricular activities for your children?

Dear Parents,

Being a parent in Hong Kong, most of us will aim at choosing "famous" school for our children. It is inevitable that we need to let our children to join some extracurricular activities for both self-development and gaining merits for admission to the target school.

Many of us will face with a dilemma of striking the balance between the "sufficient rest time" and "enough extracurricular activities" for our children.

I would like to make some statistics here about the number and kind of extracurricular activities which are being taken by your children. Kindly pls voice out.

my girl is study in P.2 wholeday school

Each week extracurricular activities schedule : -

Thu, Fri -  Ballet
Sat       -  Drama, Piano
Sun       -  Kumon Maths and Social Dance.

my daugther P2 in whole day school

Monday : Kumon Chinese and Maths
Tue : Piano, Takutoo
Wed : ice skating
Thur : English
Fri : English drama (in school)
Sat : Ballet (as join) , drawing, english

Most of them are required by my daugther esp ballet. I think it is better for her to learn rather than stay at home watch TV.

She also want to learn swimming but it is difficult to arrange time for her.

My daughter is also in P2 in a whole day school.

Mon: violin (in school)
Fri: children group meeting (church activity)
Sat:piano, drawing

My daughter seems to be getting tired after a whole day's time in school and she has to practise piano at night so she doesn't have any more spare time during the weed day. Your daughters are much more energetic than mine. How can you help them to manage the time?

其實做香港小孩真的好辛苦，學的才藝班很多，父母甚至子女也好像感染了「不要輸在起步點上」或多點技倆為未來謀去路，總覺得本港孩子周身刀無張利。

我的女兒也有很多才藝班，覺得她小時候學多點東西，對她未來會好一點，甚麼的東西也說從小學起最好，又想女兒就算將來讀書讀不來，也有一兩手技倆謀生。哈，最好笑還是她又從來不抗拒，還很樂意去上堂。

近日我發覺這樣好像有點不對勁，學那麼多東西幹麼？又不是專一學一種專長，長大了像我也是樣樣懂一點點，甚麼Takudoo、珠心算、網球、高爾夫球、拼音等等，是否夠我在朋友面前胡扯一番就夠？我真是如假包換周身刀無張利。

或者作為父母的我們，是否要好好想一想？

真不好意思借此發嘮叨，只是有感而發。

My daughter is a whole-day primary 1 student.

Her extra-curricular activity schedule is:

Every Tue after school: English Drama
Every Wed after school: Violin and Ballet
Every Sat: Ballet and Choir
Every Sun: Piano

She is quite enjoying her activities and requests me to arrange ice-skating / swimming for her. However, as a working mother, it seems quite difficult for me in time management. he he....

I have 2 kids.

1 girl in P4 (ESF) and 1 boy in P2 (ESF).

They were in the local system until last Sept.

Monday - nothing
Tuesday
- girl =drawing class (2 hours)
- boy = Kungfu class (1 hour)
Wed - putonghua tutorial
Thurs. - nothing
Friday - putonghua tutorial

In the past, on Saturdays they would have ice-skating, but they are taking a rest now.

My daughter used to have violin lessons on Tuesday, in addition to the drawing, but her teacher moved and we are still looking for a new one. The boy wants to start either flute or trumpet, so we are looking for a Saturday or Sunday class for both of them.

我囡讀P.2上午班
Wed - 學校普通話班
Thu - 學琴
Sat - 學校Cambridge英文班及跆拳道
另學校Sat長週課外活動囡囡自己揀左drama

囡囡好enjoy課外活動，仲想參加游水同畫畫，今年暑假會考慮學游水，其他就等遲d學校轉左全日制再重新安排。

My girl at P.3 is learnng ballet for 2 days, gymnastics for 3 days, girl guide and church class each 1 day. She also learn piano occasionally when she likes.

I have 2 kids. My daughter now in P.3 attends piano lesson & 珠心算 every Saturday afternoon. She also attends swimming lession every Sunday morning. I would like her to focus on the activities that she has interest & keep them last for longer period of time. She has learnt playing piano for 4 years and swimming for about 2 years. Swimming is a good exercise for health. I do not emphasize on quantity.

My second kid is boy, now is around 3.5 yrs old. Still not yet decided which activities will suit him. Also I have to match the schedule with my daughter.

my son is now studying primary one (pm session).

fri: english phonics class (1 hr)
sat: drum (school) (1 hr) + drawing&art (1.5 hrs)
sun: tennis (taught by my friend) (1 hr)

我女小三上午班
一&三 - 英文 Phonics
二 - 芭蕾舞
六 - 幼童軍 & 芭蕾舞
另外入左學校sport unit , 不定時

很多事情，錯過了就沒有了；錯過了就是會變的,緣份也是。人與人之所以能夠成為朋友,成為知己,在於彼此交往的機會多,及彼此的交流坦誠.願主祝福你們!TRACY

Hi mums

How much do you spend on your kids' activities ? What is the special of Kumon ?
I know that is for Primany student, why K2 can apply ?

My daughter now is K1, she is still not starting writing, just draw few lines at homework...so easy.

My son is a K3 boy,
Mon-phonics class 1 hr.
Wed-british council 1 and a half hr.
Sat-maths of bread training 1 hr.
Sun-swimming 1 hr.
will consider to enroll a drawing class.

My daughter K1 now, nearly 4 years old
Monday: ice skating (strongly requested by her since 2 years old)
Tuesday: Roller skating, dropped for 2 months since she didn't like it very much
Wednesday: dancing class in school, followed by Yamaha junior musical class (she enjoys a lot)
Friday: Oriental Dancing
She is asking for drawing class and swimming class. By the way, does any one know a good drawing class/teacher in Hong Kong East?

My daughter is a K2 student :

Mon -- Drawing class
Thu -- Folk dancing class
Sat -- Ballet

BTW, mummy is her private phonics/reading teacher who teaches phonics/reading 3 - 5 times per week.
