The problem of going over for year 10 is not just getting in. There are indeed many disadvantages.
As all GCSE subjects start at Year 10, the kid will need to hit the ground running as soon as term starts as some course work will count towards the final marking.
Choosing GCSE subjects before starting means some uncertainty regarding whether those subjects are suitable as the curriculum may well be very different to those the kid experienced in HK.
Majority of students have already spent a year together forming firm friendships, so breaking into a social circle will not be easy.
Time is needed to adjust to a new environment, new culture, new social circle, & new curriculum, the kid will have very little time to make such adjustments.
All in all, I personally favor kids going over in Year 7 or Year 9. |
