Can get insured not matter where you depart. I bought for my son when he departed from the US and travelled in Europe last year.
But different insurance has different coverage emphasis. For this policy, it is difficult to get compensation if you lost money or personal belonging (better check details). But they have better coverage on medical and accident.

Just make sure you read the policy wording/full description of coverage carefully, as there can be waiting periods before cover starts if you're already travelling. The only restriction is for UK residents who are not UK citizens, you have to be at home to buy a policy through us (sorry!).
