Garden House is a Waldorf approach school, here is an interview with the Principal of Garden House http://www.geobaby.com/articles/ ... are-waldorf-schools, you may take a look of it and understand more about their philosophy. Currently there are only 2 Steiner schools in HK, namely Garden House in Sai Kung and Highgate House (the Peak), generally they encourage learn thorugh play, and also focus on children's independence, self-caring skills and communication skills rather than just learning alphabets and mathematics at Nursery or Kindergarten. Moreover, the school won't teach writing, Steiner approach believe children under 7 years of age shouldn't learn any form of writing. If you'd like your child to have better adaptation in Primary school, parents may need to teach writing themselves. Although it's not a common curriclum in HK, there are many schools over the world using Steiner approach, there are even Primary schools and Secondary schools overseas.
Since there isn't any Steiner Primary school in HK, the Principal of Garden House is planning to establish a Primary school using Steiner approach and this would certainly allow more parents to understand their education philosophy, and she believes that more people in HK will assent this kind of education approach in the near future.
Woodlands is a traditional British school with good reputation and experienced teachers. My children were graduated from Woodlands some years ago and I found they enjoyed their school lives very much, meanwhile teachers were caring and knew my children's personality well, they had their special method to teach different types of children (eg: some are more active/talkative while some of them are quiet/passive). Their curriculums are structured and organized, there are different themes throughout the year. The school strike a right balance between Play and Knowledge, they arrange enough time for children to have free play and outdoor activities everyday, these are important elements of childhood, it's beneficial to children since they are full of energy and need to use them up, sports are good for both mentally and physically. |
