Re: 如何選擇小提琴
As your daughter is looking for a 4/4, I guess she somehow knows what she is looking for. What does her teacher suggest? For $5,000, it is likely that you will be restricted to Chinese and Eastern European violins. Chinese/Eastern European violins ≠ bad. Don't dismiss a violin for its Chinese or Eastern European origin. Chance is that over 90% of the violins in the $5,000 price range are made in China or Romania.
Which shop have you visited? Forget about Tom Lee. It simply does not offer enough choices. Try Orfeo (Flat D, 2/F, Southorn Mansion, Luard Road, Wanchai) and Violmaster in Wanchai (Wood Road, can't recall exact address). The guys there are very helpful and do not mind you trying their violins for hours.
Happy violin hunting.
