If my son wants to take Medicine or QFin in CUHK, he may have two conditional offers, say Medicine 41/45, QFin 37/45. If I don't mind to pay and he is interested in both programs, can he hold both offers before the announcement of IB results?

I think CU will not issue 2 conditional offers at the same time. If you accept the offer made to your first choice, they would not proceed further with your 2nd and 3rd choices.

Only if you were declined your first choice or you withdrew your first choce , CU would then consider your next choice.

By the way, does your son apply for admission for courses commencing September 2012 or 2013?

How about HKU and HKUST? The same logic.

We are planning a stagger strategy like this

                                   CUHK                       HKU                   HKUST

40+                             MBBS                       MBBS                BBA
38-40                          BBA                        BBA-Law              ???
35-38                          QFin                          Law                   ???

If he takes the first choice, the conditional offers will be more or less the same. We are looking at the safety net.... Any advice?

2013, any difference??
Also, we are considering non-JUPAS and not JUPAS.

My daughter applies to CU and HKU and she got both offer from CU and HKU. I have already paid the deposit to CU but not yet to HKU. So I think it is perfectly alright for you to hold 2 offers from 2 different universities. However, my duaghter will decide whether to settle in CU or HKU sometime next week. If she chooses HKU, I will pay the deposit to HKU and inform CU accordingly so that CU can make the offer to other applicants My daughter is an Non-Jupas applicant. I have no idea in case of HKUST because she did not make application to it.

Yes, we are talking about NON-JUPAS application.

If your son applies for admission in 201/12 cycle for medicine, the spaces are double for non-jupas applicants because of 2 cohorts - one for DSE and the other for AL. However, for non-jupas applicant, he will be considered for both cohorts by both CU and HKU if your son applies for medicine.

If he applies in the application cycle 12/13, there will only be one cohort i.e. 6 years program medicine and the spaces reserved for non-jupas will be about 50 (appr) for each university

I see, the double cohort effect in 2012.
The spaces of 50 per cohort, so its 100 in total per university?

I guess the total spaces of MBBS will drop as single cohort, 210 per university, still 1/3 non-JUPAS, around 70.....

He loves HKU MBBS and BBA-Law, so he can only take one......

I did not attend the open day of CU but I did attend HKU'.

We  were told by HKU that for medicine, usually they accepted about 25 NON-Jupas applicants each year when the class size was 160. From 2012, the Government provided more funding to the faculty to increase the intake to 210. The increased space will be allocated equally to Non-jupas and Jupas applicants so that the seats available to Non-jupas will be about 50. Coupling with the double cohorts effect, this year's spaces for Non-jupas will be arouind 100 in 2012. It will become normal in 2013 and about 50 Non-Jupas students will be admitted.from 2013 onward.

I understand that amongst those 50 spaces, HKU will allocate about 60% to high school applicants and 40% to graduate/undergraduate applicants.

In case of CU, its webpage showed that about 60 to 70% of the spaces will be allocated to local applicants. In other words, about 30 to 40% of the spaces are allocated to Non-Jupas applicants (i.e. 63 to 84 spaces). However, CU tends to admit more transfer overseas medical students. So I estimate that from 2013 onward, the number of spaces available for Non-jupas high school applicants is about 30 to 40 only.

我諗我冇咁偉大,話唔霸住個位,留番比其他人。
我會兩間都比錢留位,或者過一段時間,等真係諗清楚,先 GIVE UP 一間。

BTW,先前同 CUHK admission people 傾過,一個人只會有一個 offer from CUHK。
冇問過 HKU 或 UST,我覺得應該都唔會比兩個 OFFERS。不過都係問學校好 D。

I didn't attend the HKU admission talk this year, but we attended that in 2010. My understanding is 160 spaces, 1/3 EAS, 1/3 JUAPS and 1/3 non-JUPAS, same as CUHK.

If no more EAS, and add 50 more spaces, I guess the split will be more on JUPAS is political correct. Definitely more than 50, less than 90......

In CUHK,among non-JUPAS, 15/55 are graduates or undergraduates in previous years. Even less in HKU.

我咁諗,WORK 唔WORK?

My daughter's case is different. The conditions imposed by both universities have been fulfilled by my daughter so she can make a decision before the release of the result in July 2012.
