我最關心將來畢左業後入邊間小學。

街邊雜誌話St Catherine畢業生多入到拔萃喇沙，唔知係唔係真係好過根德?

which magazine ?

La Salle and Old DPS are subsidized schools, so admission is not related with the kindergarten !

generally speaking, SC's oral english is better than that of Kentville, but Kentville may be stronger in written English , Chinese, Maths !

不過, 聽講話根德教學生自動自覺, 做功課, 溫書都唔需要家長提醒或協助, 係嗎?

後悔揀根德 :
老師冇愛心, 完全唔協助家長解決問題, 仲要投訴
囡囡今年K1, 我想每個家長都很緊張小朋友在school的情况,我已是全職媽媽,自己接送到班房, 但老師和家長的溝通可以說是0 (一句起兩句止). 一班三十幾人前後左右都病, 缺席少不免, 問老師缺席期間所教的生字班咪唔識囉, 佢居然答 :梗係啦. 唉 !激死. 大家到知老師講一句好過家長講一百句, 囡囡教極都唔記得.
仲有老師居然投訴我, 因囡囡食其他同學的卜卜脆食物, 話我淨你bread and cake, 点解帶脆的食物是對呢?
死讀書, 唔去解釋給學生知對與錯, 唔係一間好學校。小朋友係班房死咕咕聽書,唔可以講嘢, 完全和我囡囡的性格完全相反, 所以我好後悔. 鬼叫囡囡考唔到國際咩, 我朋友囡囡不知幾happy, 雖然佢take school bus, 但可以自留电和老師直接了解小朋友的情况(差不多講成個鐘, 協助家長解决小朋友的問題), 仲話學寄信 (帶stamp和信封),功課不用寫只是剪報找字, 唉 ! 希望K2可

On the day of interview, I've found Kentville's staff were not very friendly and helpful. But, there are still many parents love this school more than SC. Could you tell us a bit more. Thanks.

Kentville
- Traditional + active learning
- Good in Chinese and Maths teaching
- No phonics?
- No parents' involments in any of its activities
- Stresses on child's diciplines
- Trains students to finish their homework by themselves (as told by a K3 mom)
- Teachers are nice and exprienced.  (The kindy treats their staff very well.)

SC
- Good in English teaching
- Phonics
- Has ECAs
- Active learning approach
- it is a good kindy before 1997, but after 1997?? (I can't remember the source)
- Parents' guidance needed in the course of the  child's study

Any pros and cons regarding to them?  Or, anything you don't agree?

你既分析好岩!我個人都覺得其實兩間都係好學校,只不過係教學方法有出入,我唸主要睇家長buy邊一套同埋最緊要小朋友受唔受到!有d家長會話我知唔係咁鐘意SC因佢太淺,但有D家長又會話唔鐘意根德園因佢太深!所以唔可以比較兩間邊間好D,只可以問下自己想小朋友係咩環境下讀書!

根據教育處政府網頁(below),2003-2004 根德園上午班205人,共7班 (下午班一樣),平圴每班29.28人(205人/7),點解你會話一班有三十幾人呢?

I've checked from the Profile of Kindergartens (03/04) that Kentville did have one K3 pm class with 35 students!

你小朋友讀書未？唔好淨係看數字, withdrawn未必代表SC有問題. 因為CCKG只收K2班,而CCKG好鍾意收SC的student(英文水準會比一般的kindergartens高), 所以好多想入CCKG的冢長會先入SC讀K1先,K2再

Just a quick guess about the change in the number of students in SC

a)from K1 to K2 - some got accepted by CCKG which put a lot of weight on a child's spoken English in selecting their students.  SC students have a slight advantage because they are more used to speaking English to foreigners.  The standard of English of Kentville students are not bad but kids tend to be a bit shy or even scared if they have minimal exposure to foreigners.
b)from K2 to K3 - some got accepted by ESF or international primary schools.  Most Kentville parents target for local schools whereas SC's parents are more of a mixed of both local and international.

I do have friends which fall into either of the above scenerios.  As for me, if my son is lucky enough to be accepted by SC, it is likely that scenerio b) will be my target.

Actually I have made a wrong projection on the numbers of students in both kindies. I should look at the past two years as well. Anyway, my child is accepted by Kentville for 05 and I'm waiting for SC's result. Both kindies have their selling points. I tend to choose SC in fact, but the cost in studying there is also a factor for me to consider. I just try to justifiy the two and make the best choice for my child. Thanks for your input!
