Re: St.Joseph's primary (wanchai)
| i must admit that SJPS is a fine local school, though it has quite a lot of rumors and stories going about regarding the school. i guess a lot of them were quite true. if you intend to push you son to score A grades (90-100) , you will probably find enormous pressure through out the next 6 years. in fact a lot of the children there do achieve very high grades, therefore, very competitive. i also heard a lot of saying about the poor quality of the teachers and the over conservative way of teaching method blar blar blar.......  lucky enough in the past 3 years including this current class teacher, we have found them all very qualified, caring, tough but with a heart to teach for the best of my son. so should i say we've been very lucky or others have been a bit too negative on things. homework isn't little but acceptable amount, in normal week days, it will probably take 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours to complete. there will be slightly more homework during weekends. what takes up the most time of my son is when he has to sumit a weekly report, he hates creative writing and he has no choice. i am trying hard to balance my son between acadamic and other interests of his. i'm very sure if i make him to spend most of his time in his studies, there shouldn't be much a problem scoring A's. but what about his childhood, that means no soccer, no swimming, no basket ball, etc....... absolutley nothing to talk about when he is grown up. what i expect from him is his attitute towards play time and study time and to enjoy the both.
meanwhile, relax and not to worry, and forget about the worksheets (my advice) . when september comes, you will meet a lot of other mothers at school, get to know them. you will find there a few types of them, stick to the type you feel most comfortable, it's always nice to know a few nice mothers.
