父母英語水平一般，又想孩子讀IS......!!!! - 國際學校

簡單英語我地都教到，再深D就唔得啦，我地係唔係唔應該揀IS呢???有咩方法可以補救呢???

我覺得不太好。

我小朋友是在IS, 我初也以為小朋友讀，唔係家長讀，冇所謂，後來發覺原本學校每月也有幾次活動( 有些不需家長出席)，單打電話去查詢，也需講英文。
況且你都好想與老師及其它家長談論仔女野、學校野，我間IS 全部家庭都可用英文交談，有些是爸爸流利英文，但媽媽唔識，有時活動會見到這些媽媽獨自站開一旁，我也覺得好怪，何況小朋友！

你可揀多數是香港人讀的IS, e.g. Kingstom, 耀中，有些香港學生達80%, 根本唔需講英文

點解唔努力投入學校活動?

又要唔露面 (用email), 又要拒絕與學校及其它家長談話，何必呢？

I found this problem too!
My daughter is studing in International School
now, and my english is quite fluent.(not native) The main point is i don't know how to
communicate with westerners, maybe i know
very little thing? Maybe is a matter of different
culture........, i am not a 'social' person also....
I can't think of much things to chat after talking for 5-10 minutes. And they think that i am
quite strange, as i can speak fluent english, but always 'dead air'. As a result of this, i always
not willing to attend some of my daughter's
school activities,like picnic. I think this an
important point to consider too. Any Mum
encounter this problem too?
Anybody can give me some advice how to
improve?

而家囝囝讀緊ESF - K1, MISS已經同我地傾左兩次話佢D英文唔係好好，攪到佢好似成日都唔知做咩咁，佢叫我地平日應多用英語和他溝通，但我地都係一半半，始終有D嘢係用番母語先表達到，我自已覺得而家先剛剛起步已經有問題，咁遲D點算呀!!!!!真係有D想幫佢轉返主流呀!!!

如果老師都話唔係幾得，你真係要諗下辦法，否則孩子點響學校“生存”？！
我認識好多家長都唔同孩子講英文的，但孩子們響學校學的英文也夠應付...如果唔夠既話，家長一定要搵外援幫手！
當孩子有一定程度的應對及理解能力後，佢地係會講番學校既野俾家長知的，所以唔使太過擔心日後會否出現更多問題...讀IS既學生都好有能力獨立架！
我自己本身英文都唔太好，只可用作普通溝通之用，所以都好少同老師 social ...一般有事先傾，無事就 hi 同 bye 囉...同其他外籍家長都無咩交流，因為一來背景文化既差異，而且嗜好生活方式都唔一樣，真係無咩好傾...
不過，我好勤力返學校幫手架...唔會因為英文唔夠好就唔出現！反而仲要多 d去幫手，等老師知道我都好有心的呢！
想講，英文係可以學好的...唔好為左咁就改變孩子既教育方向！試諗下，就算係外國人，都有非英語為母語既人仕架嘛？！所以唔係個個都可以講靚既英文架！

Don't worry too much!
If you like the IS environment and curriculum, go ahead! The kid could survive anyway.
Good parents/teachers would accept & respect each other. Cultural diversity is one of the principle/beauty in international school.

I can't agree with Radiomama anymore. The main consideration is what you want to give to your children and they would survive well naturally. Whether we can minggle with foreigner parents are not important, of course we should try our best to build and maintain etwork with them. Some of the IS students are not native english speakers, they are from various countries like Korea, Japan, Singapore, Indian etc.

If we are not native English speaker, to choose an IS, I would suggest a train through school such that the children need not to go through rounds of interviews from kinder to primary when children's ability to communicate in English is key area of assessment.

我朋友3個仔女都係讀國際學校,但響屋企都係講中文,因為父母英交唔好...溝通都冇問題

不用擔心的, 小朋友學習力很強, 比佢係IS接觸英文, 未嘗唔係一件好事, 係屋企可以講番中文, 溝通係無問題ge!

不會有問題的，或者問題不在於父母的英文程度，最重要是小朋友是否喜歡IS那種教學模式，是否每天都喜歡上學。本人覺得如小朋友在幼稚園開始讀IS的話，到小學後，應該不會有不適應的問題。小女也是IS學生，記得她讀國際幼稚園時，校長也鼓勵家長用自己母語跟小朋友溝通的，因為日後小朋友要理解更深的哲理時，以母語作思考的基礎才可事半功倍的。這種說法跟之後在小學IS一次給家長的英語教學seminar中負責教英語的老師所說不謀而合。老師說如家長母語非英語，就不要勉強跟子女以英語作主要的溝通語言，否則不但影響小朋友的英語進度，更會影響其他學科的進度。

小朋友其實很容易適應兩種語言的環境，如經濟能負擔的話，就不用擔心英語的問題。小朋友肯定要超越父母的，否則世界怎會進步？

Being in IS is just a different mode of education. At my son's school, there are parents who speak Korean and Japanese and doesn't know a single word of english. The kids still play together, go to birthday parties together. These parents have their own little groups, but they try very hard to "blend in" too. Teachers find it difficult to communicate with these mommies, but they still survive!
