PM you the details....sorry I didn't notice another mammy has pm you her details too...
My son speaks very little when he was 16 mth, after those PN interviews in Oct/Nov, I decide to let him to join the language classes in Nov to see if there is any improvement.
We had 2 lessons a week for Spanish first, and when I attended the trial class with my baby, he is so happy and willing to sit still (this is rare as he always loves moving around) and the Spanish teacher is really good, very interesting and both my hb and I was impressed.
In Feb this yr, I tried to let him have 3 lessons a week, and tried Engish, Mandarin and Japanese. My focus is Spanish we have 5 Spanish class a mth, 3 Eng, 2 Mandarin and 2 Japanese, as I think Spanish is good for my baby's future and I will keep it on and switch it to Sat after he goes to PN. For Eng and Mandarin, papa thinks they are important so we just let him learn earlier and will drop them as he will learn them from PN class. For Japanese, it is only my interest as I can speak a little and I love going to Japan.
I do go to try different teachers in CWB and Admiralty centres for Eng, Mandarn and Japanese, to see which teachers suit my baby. As my baby loves moving around, I need the teachers who can "hold his hand and control him not to run away", and I will pick those teachers will can do this, and those who can make my baby to look at her (he seldom does this at home, even to us), watch her lips and follows her to pronounce the words. These are the most critical factors when I pick the right teachers. Sorry that I didn't try TST centres but I know many teachers in Admiralty is good so if it is convenient to you, you can try. If not, ask mammys here who have TST classes to see which teachers are good.
At the beginning, my baby cannot do much but since March (5 mths), I can see his improvement, though not a lot, but he speaks more, and he can sometimes speak Spanish (we don't know it is Spanish but my maid tells us, and the teacher will give us a CD with content same as what are taught in the class, and it is easy to learn as all converted to songs).
Of course, I don't expect him to speak Spanish as he is still so small, but I saw many babies who are around 2 yr old can speak Japanese (like good morning, good afternoon, count 1 to 10, saiyonana, etc.), Mandarin, Eng and Spanish, as hey joined the classes when they were 6 mths old only. I was so surprised at that time, so I do think if we let our baby to spend more time on it, he will learn it one day.....haha, but need to spend a lot on it la; and it is hard for us as we only get p.m. sesson offer for PN class, so we have to give up the language classes on weekdays but Spanish only on Sat.
But one thing I would like to point out is, since they change their policy starting from April, we can only have 3 fixed date and time so we are forced to pick 5 Spanish, 3 Eng and 4 Mandarin (they allow a slight change as I told them I want more Spanish class). And they don't allow change of time school or "annual leave" unless you inform them b4 you pay for the coming month, which do not allow flexibility and even I wrote to the boss and suggest 1 week prior notice for change of time schedue, their reply is "NO"; and sick leave requires doctor certificates. I do complain on this as parents may let their babies to go to the classes even they are sick to avoid giving any doctor certificate and this endanger our babies' health...but the boss insisted he will keep on this policy even losing more students. So keep this in mind when you decide.
Sorry for "long tongue". I do think it helps, but don't expect your baby can speak the language you choose quickly, esp. he is only 6 mths old, he needs more time to learn before he can really speak those language and it should be a long-term training.
Hope it can help.
Cheers.
