I would like to share what I learnt from the recent meeting and some of my experience with SJC parents.
I appreciated that Mrs. LU was open to parents request for at least a meeting to communicate.
The school will go on running under Mrs. LU’s direction.
Full day class and the English learning environment will be kept.
Mrs. LU wanted to change the phonics into a more child centered way.
She liked to teach more Chinese in the future.
Will it affect the quality of English learning?
It was a competitive edge of this school.
As a majority of parents are targeting local primary school, I cannot wait longer to welcome a better reinforced Chinese teaching.
When will they release a comprehensive future teaching plan to parents, including Chinese and English?
How will they do with Cantonese, Putonghua, Chinese character recognition, reading and writing?
I appreciated that the school informed us what the kids were going to learn.
They handed out writing exercises for home practice everyday, and promoted completion of homework themselves (not writing with adult holding hands, although sometimes writing with adult holding hands is not that harmful).
They showed my son’s artwork masterpiece (Graffiti only J).
The new change of snack menu seems more likely to be a healthy diet for kids.
Mrs. LU is picking up the school work.
Yet, she is new to the school operation (and maybe the Hong Kong education system as well).
There are a lot of details she needs to look into.
Parents and the school have to communicate more about what is happening.
The school should show responsive action to our opinions.
Although changing school is not my choice, I will find another good school for back up.
What I can do at this stage is keep close observation to the school and the performance under the new team.
As my son is in full day class, I was a bit disappointed in the old days (first term of K1) to what was happening with training of self-care ability.
In the first few weeks, I was told that my boy needed feeding by the teachers.
Then, I trained my son to eat beside the table himself.
Months later, his clothes were no longer stuck with rice/sauce, etc.
The wet towel he brought school was the same (tidy and clean) everyday when he came home.
I was wondering they did nothing and let him alone, even when they saw my son would not eat by himself.
I asked the teacher again.
They only told me again that he needed feeding, but their attitude was that it had nothing to do with them.
Some of the teachers were of about 10-20 years experience.
The school was supposed to handle their eating, cleaning up and sleeping in a well managed routine every day.
I could not image further what was going on when it came to training the kids to take things in / out from their school bags.
Now the old staff have been changed.
I would like to see positive follow up action under the direction of the Mrs. LU.
The school may consider taking some photos during each lesson, snack time, lunch time, toilet time, exercise, and before and after school.
If they will provide the photos to the parents every week, it will be highly appreciated.
By the way, I don’t have sufficient teaching materials to follow during the CNY holiday to prepare for the coming March Assessment.
Should there be a newly dispatched school calendar without changing the dates of special days and holidays from time to time?
