I think when I downloaded the application form last year from SHCK website, I almost given up applying for it mainly due to (1) the number of additional information they have listed which can be provided (e.g. Catholic, old girls, etc.) and we had NONE of them; and (2) my past experience concerning the teaching method in SHCK.

However, as I done my research through bk on SHCK and understand more of how they have evolved to teaching method more close to my expectation, so I am thankful that we did apply for it eventually.  Specially thanks to my wife who volunteer to line up for the submission as I was busy that day.  Otherwise, my daughter will never have the chance to study there in this big warm family now.

Concerning the various preferences, although I know a lot of Catholic families in SHCK, there are also a lot of non-Catholic families too so there is a good balance there.  One thing I like about this school system is it maintain a good balance of various things and not given special preferences on one or two particular where you will find all the children behaves all too similar.  There are very active girls and also more quiet girls there and they cope with each other very well.  I think this is more healthy to children (on social perspective) to be meeting fellow schoolmates with different personality and it is more close to reality.

Talked too much already and to answer the question in simple way, the kindergarten has the ability to accept children from all kind of different background so it doesn't give special preferences unless the child performed well in the interview.  Being a Catholic may gives some preferences but don't expect to be a huge advantage.  Living close-by is probably not a factor to them.

Ian
