請問係唔係好多學校而家都唔收portfolio啦? 等我做好晒但係佢地又話唔收, 淨係收出世紙同K2成績副本!

My personal opinion, it is good to discard the protfolio at least parents won't push their kids to learn too many activities for the cert. or join too many competitions for the awards to present to the school. Especially the portfolio is not kinda kid's handwork.
end up it is good for the kid.

I really agreed with your points, portfolio is a much waste money and waste both parents's and child's time.

Portfolio

I have prepared the Portfolio for my son.  I have put all the cert., some works and the activities photo in it.  In my point of view, the portfolio is used for let the teacher or school know more about my son.  My point is don't let the children to learn or participate course/act for getting the certificate.  I just let him participate the cousre they enjoy and let him to try different thing to find which is suit for him.  Every children has their own talent.  At the Kindergarten stage, they have more time.  It is a very good time to try more things.  
I think my porfolio can tell the school my son's backgournd and little about his attitude because the interview can only let them know a little bit.  Preparation of porfolio can help them to think about my son is suit for their school or not.

It is true that we get to know a lot about our children during the process of profolio preparation.  
However, it is unrealistic that any school would spend much time to digest the information in 2000+ profolios every year.  Also, if the certificates are really important for admission, they must be to be evaulated and verified offcially- are they real?  how easy is it to get them?- otherwise do you think it is fair that a school, after spending perhaps 1 min browsing through a profolio, simply gives extra points to the applicant because they are lots of different varieties of certificates and activities taken?

I let my daughter go to all the extra-curricular activities simply because she has a lot of time after her morning class, and that she actually enjoys going.  She is not taking piano lessons because she doesn't like practising.  So I don't want to force her to practise.  But she's taking swimming lessons all year round because it actually improves her health.  None of the activities was meant to be put in the portfolio in the first place.

But then, I was grateful to have something to put in the portfolio when I needed to make one.  And on some of the application forms, I have to fill out what kind of awards and certificates my daughter has.

My daughter was chosen by her kindergarten to enter a Putonghua competition when she was in K1.  And she got a certificate for being in the finals.  Of course, I put that down in the portfolio.

I don't know how much time a school actually uses to go through all the portfolio.  My daughter was always asked questions in Putonghua during interviews, which I guess the school might try to "verify" the truthfulness of the info that I put down.  She said that not all the children were not asked questions in Putonghua.

If anyone puts false info or cert in the portfolio, wouldn't they have to tell their kids to lie at the same time?
