Re: 囡囡返k1, 學校話要改english name?
我較早時都有同一煩惱. 我讀左廿幾卅年書都唔使用英文名. 我只想留番個選擇權比阿囡"姐", 但無奈要入鄉隨俗. Some websites you may take a look:
http://www.behindthename.com/
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
http://www.yourbabysname.com/
http://www.babynames.com/
or you may fetch some naming books in PageOne or Dymocks.
但注意在 US popular 並不代表在 HK popular.
我想名的選擇很多,但可留意:
- does it sound odd or is it difficult to pronounce together with the surname, e.g., Joe Ko, Alice Sze?
- does the initials look funny, e.g., P.S., S.M., D.J., K.O.?
- is it too common, e.g., there is no much uniqueness to have 7 Michaels in a class?
- is it too difficult that your children needs to spell/correct it everytime he/she introduces himself/herself? and what's worse, some teachers/speakers don't know how to pronounce it?
- is there too many variants that spelling/correction is necessary during introduction/registration, e.g., Katherine vs Catherine, etc?
- the meaning?
- do you need to have a biblical name?
- do you all like it?
Hope it helps. |
