My daughter got the no. 5 school in the 2nd round. 3 good schools accept her in the 3rd round (in the same district and other district). Now, she can go to a good school in the nearby district.
Interview mainly observe whether the kid is polite, stable, listen to instruction and has common sense (e.g. what you should not do when there is fire, what would you do if a stranger give an ice-cream to you, etc)
I've also attended an interview with my daughter in the 3rd round. The teacher mainly observe whether you know well the school and you kid, you education direction match with the school.
However, most of the school will concern the conduct and academic performance at kinder, bonus will be given to those good in these two aspects.
Moreover, the school will consider the kid have activities at and outside kinder to see whether there is all round development.
The schools will also give bonus to those parents if they can present participation and sincere to the kid.
Interview is NOT the only element for the school's decision.
I suggest well prepare for the 3rd round including :-
During the 3 yrs in Kinder:-
(1) Let the kid try more extra-cirr course to explore his/her interests
(2) Accompany your kid to internal and external activities
(3) Guide the kid to have good performance at kinder
After the release of 2nd round result:-
(4) Check the date for submission of docs and prepare all information for kid in presentable format
(5) Don't give too much pressure to the kid, let them know if they try their best, they already success no matter other schools accept or not
(6) Role play for the interview, if the kids already went through the questions, they will not be scared.
(7) Give information of the interviewing school to the kid
I think plan more during the kinder period is very important.
